We live in a world where our bodies are a hot commodity.
We have medicine to fix it, plastic surgery to make it last longer, soaps and fragrances to make it smell better, and make up to make it look better.
We spend lots of money to keep it strong.
We spend lots of money to keep it strong.
We spends tons of money to eat healthier.
We spend money to workout in the millions of gyms that have popped up.
But there is more to us than this physical body.
The day we accepted Jesus Christ, a change came over us. There was a new aspect made to our bodies.
I want to tell you from this text why

A. Your Body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit

1. “What know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost?”

2. This reminds us of the temple in the Old Testament

a. What great care was given to its design

b. What immense wealth was placed into its construction

c. The people were to know that God dwelt there

3. Note the day of dedication of Solomon’s temple (2 Chron. 7:1–3 and 12–15)

4. But there is no such place in the age of grace

a. This building is not God’s temple

b. This building is not even a church, just the place the church meets

5. Your body, God’s temple:

a. Be careful where it goes

b. Be careful what it does

c. Be careful what it ponders

d. Be careful how it reacts

B. The Holy Spirit Lives within his Temple

1. “Who is in you”

2. How can that be?

a. Something like the creation of man

b. Another proof of the mystery of God

3. See how clearly the Bible bears out this truth

a. Jesus makes the promise (John 14:15–26)

b. The Book of Acts describes it (Acts 2:1–4; 4:31)

c. The epistles explain it (Rom. 8:5–17; Gal. 3:1–5; Eph. 5:18–25)

4. The result: THE HOLY SPIRIT IS WITH YOU WHEREVER YOU GO

a. His power is available when you need it

b. Every word and deed is in His view

c. He is grieved at our inconsistencies

1. “What know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost?”
2. This reminds us of the temple in the Old Testament
a. Great care was given to its design
b. What immense wealth was placed into its construction
c. The people were to know that God dwelt there
3. (ESV) As soon as Solomon finished his prayer, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple. 2 And the priests could not enter the house of the Lord, because the glory of the Lord filled the Lord’s house. 3 When all the people of Israel saw the fire come down and the glory of the Lord on the temple, they bowed down with their faces to the ground on the pavement and worshiped and gave thanks to the Lord, saying, “For he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.”
(ESV) 12 Then the Lord appeared to Solomon in the night and said to him: “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for myself as a house of sacrifice. 13 When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command the locust to devour the land, or send pestilence among my people, 14 if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 15 Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place.

B. The Holy Spirit Dwells within God’s Temple

Temple- a building considered as the house or dwelling place of a deity where the deity could be worshipped.

3. See how clearly the Bible bears out this truth

Jesus makes the promise (ESV) 15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.

C. Your Goal Is To Glorify God in His Temple

You have become the property of another by purchase or by means of a financial transaction.
You have been bought by the blood of Jesus, by the sacrifice that was made Calvary for you.

III. Conclusion
A. Surrender your Body to the Lord (ESV) I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

B. Glorify God Everyday of Your Life, that means you will have to endure some suffering, but in the there will be joy.
