Will The Real Gospel Please Stand Up Part 2

Part 2

The Marriage From Hell

Point Of Tension…
Why does the world seem so divided, confused and messed up???Man is living in condemnation, discouragement, fear and failureNever good enoughHurt on the inside… Bitter … Volatile … These things are outside of the love of GodIs there another life available?Sometimes we think we know Even when Our lives don’t line up with what we say we know.
Last week we talked about how God never missed it...
Today: The Marriage From Hell
The problem with the world is that they are married to the wrong lover
Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Atheists etc...
1. God Created Us To Be Married To / Intimate with Himself
We were created for relationship with GodWe lived in the good opinion of GodAdam & Eve existed in the love of God
Because God is the same yesterday, today and forever, we can look at the New Testament and see his intention from the beginning.
Hebrews 13:8 NIV - Anglicised
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and for ever.
I in them and you in me
John 17:21–23 NIV - Anglicised
that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
For God SO loved the world
John 3:16 NIV - Anglicised
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ
2 Corinthians 5:18–21 NIV - Anglicised
All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

2. God’s Only Rule… Don’t Touch The Rules

The day you eat of it, you will surely die

3. Man Married The Law (Became intimate with/ One with)

COVENANT/ BOUND
Adam’s marriage covenant with the law. PERSPECTIVE
Genesis 3:1–11 NIV - Anglicised
Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’ ” “You will not surely die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realised that they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.” And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree from which I commanded you not to eat?”
. PERSPECTIVE
1. Your eyes will be opened
2. You will be like God
3. You will know good and evil (the law)
Man has now become like one of us UNVEILED To the enemy
Genesis 3:22 NIV - Anglicised
And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live for ever.”
Died to the law that we might belong to another
Romans 7:1–4 NIV - Anglicised
Do you not know, brothers—for I am speaking to men who know the law—that the law has authority over a man only as long as he lives? For example, by law a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law of marriage. So then, if she marries another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is released from that law and is not an adulteress, even though she marries another man. So, my brothers, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God.
Locked up until faith should be revealed
Galatians 3:23–25 NIV - Anglicised
Before this faith came, we were held prisoners by the law, locked up until faith should be revealed. So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith. Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law.
Weak and miserable principles
Galatians 4:8–11 NIV - Anglicised
Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods. But now that you know God—or rather are known by God—how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable principles? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again? You are observing special days and months and seasons and years! I fear for you, that somehow I have wasted my efforts on you.
Basic principles of this world
Colossians 2:20–23 NIV - Anglicised
Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why, as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules: “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”? These are all destined to perish with use, because they are based on human commands and teachings. Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.

4. The Death Of Man

death engraved
2 Corinthians 3:6–11 NIV - Anglicised
He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, fading though it was, will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious? If the ministry that condemns men is glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness! For what was glorious has no glory now in comparison with the surpassing glory. And if what was fading away came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which lasts!
law mount Sini
Exodus 31:18 NIV - Anglicised
When the Lord finished speaking to Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him the two tablets of the Testimony, the tablets of stone inscribed by the finger of God.
brought death
Romans 7:9–10 NIV - Anglicised
Once I was alive apart from law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died. I found that the very commandment that was intended to bring life actually brought death.
law curse
Galatians 3:10–12 NIV - Anglicised
All who rely on observing the law are under a curse, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”Clearly no-one is justified before God by the law, because, “The righteous will live by faith.”The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, “The man who does these things will live by them.”
Law of sin and death
Romans 8:1–2 NIV - Anglicised
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.

5. Are You Living Bound To The Knowledge Of Good And Evil?

Genesis 3:6–11 NIV - Anglicised
When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it.
