The Night of the Passover

Thursday evening and it’s time to celebrate the Jewish Passover. Jesus and the disciples are eating together. Jesus accuses one of the disciples of being the betrayer. Judas leaves the group. The tension in the room is building. Jesus isn’t acting normal. He starts talking about leaving them and Peter responds to Jesus’ claim. Eventually Jesus tells Peter that he will deny him three times, however the disciples are upset that he plans on leaving them.
You know what emotions the disciples were feel? They were experiencing fear, fear of losing their teacher and best friend. We too feel this to often in our own lives: fear of death, health deterioration, financial security, losing friendships. But God does not want you to fear, rather he is a God of comfort and is close to the broken hearted.
John 14:1 ESV
1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.
John
John
What extinguishes out the flames of fear? It’s the trust of knowing God and Jesus are working on our side. And Jesus didn’t want his friends and you to remain afraid and scared, but gave you command. Trust in the Father and Son, for he is working good for your life and you might be asking how is he doing this? Listen to Jesus.
John 14:2–3 ESV
2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
John 14:2
This is why we have comfort from our fears. For God divine plan is to join us together with him in abode - Father’s house. Before we were foreigners, but he gives us a place to belong. We lived as strangers, however God adopts us into his family and gives a home of eternal bliss.
For you and me the words of Jesus might sound confusing. It’s the picture of a Jewish wedding. The groom betroths or engages his bride and then goes back to his Father’s house to build an insula. Jesus is making a home to marry you. For his church is his bride and we will return on day for her.
Before this plan can happen Jesus must go back to the Father house. He says this to the disciples.
John 14:4–6 ESV
4 And you know the way to where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 14:4 ESV
4 And you know the way to where I am going.”
John 14:
John 14:4-
Everything happening with Jesus and the disciples pointed to where he was going - the cross of carvery. Asking him of the way, Jesus declares he is the way, truth, and life. He is the gospel key to enter into his Father’s house.
When we embrace Jesus we get a pair of the keys that unlock our Father’s house. For only the community of the redeemed get to dwell in the house of God. But what does the gospel keys do for us before we enter into our Father’s house. Jesus says it shows us the way, truth, and life. The gospel key undo everything we fear: lostness, deception of lies, and death.

The Way reveals a life of serving and suffering.

Another illustration to draw from is a life of suffering - Christian martyrs dying for Christ.
Believing the truth - Rejecting the lie of the serpent and world (Pop culture, false religion, and ignorance of people)
Living the life - embodying the life of Christ (Chasing holiness, forgiving others, and serving the kingdom)

The Truth reveals the lies of the world.

The Life reveals freedom in Christ.

The Life is a life

What happens when we grab the keys of the gospel. We start living the way of Jesus - full of service and suffering. We live in the truth, turning away from evil and lies and we live a life as Jesus for through him we live even if we die. All our fears are erased by key of the gospel. When we have the keys of the gospel - Jesus we essential know our Father.

John 14:7–11 ESV
7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” 8 Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” 9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves.
John 14:7-
John 14:7 ESV
7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
Believe in Jesus, for in his life we see and know the Father. Those who believe in the Son are able to accomplish great things. Listen to the words of Jesus.
John 14:13–14 ESV
13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.
We are given the ministry of reconciliation and compassion. More of us means more work can be done for the kingdom. God will help us when we pray in the right manner. Praying for his will to be done in our lives. Those who hold the keys can do anything with Spirit’s power.
Praying in the name of Christ invokes power from above. Our prayers are nothing unless God hears our prayers and when we prayer in the power of the Holy Spirit and petition through the glorious Son then our prayers will be heard by God.
We live for him everyday because we know the reward waiting for us. Living in gratitude we do his will and serve everyday.

The Gospel key unlocks God's home for everyone.
