• Do not exceed what is written—v. 6

• Attitudes and conduct are to be defined by Scripture

• “Written”—points to the OT—3 places he already referred to the OT

o God has judged human wisdom—so think like that—1:19

o God is to be our glory—stay within that framework—1:31

o Human wisdom is its own enemy—3:19-20

*Principle—arrogance is not dealt with directly—he wants them to see the issue themselves
