What does The Presence of God Bring
(Psalm 105:1-5) 1 Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name;
make known among the nations what he has done.
2 Sing to him, sing praise to him;
tell of all his wonderful acts.
3 Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
4 Look to the Lord and his strength;
seek his face always.
5 Remember the wonders he has done,
his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced

*** WHAT DOES THE PRESENCE OF GOD BRING? ***
When the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters,( What does the presence of God bring?)
When God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness .( What does the presence of God bring?)
When Abraham was told to leave his family and kindred, ( What does the presence of God bring?)
When the angel Gabriel said to Mary, “Fear not Mary: for thou hast found favor with God.” .( What does the presence of God bring?)
When Jesus died on the cross and the blood came streaming down. When God raised him from the dead. .( What does the presence of God bring?)
** Three Questions to consider **
How does God expect you to respond to His presence? (2 Sam 13-19)
What does worship lead you to do for others? (2 Sam 19)
How do unbelievers react? (2 Sam 16,20)
The temple is not yet built, and the ark is in a homeless state. That bothered David, so he wanted to bring this ark to the city of Jerusalem. After one failed attempt, he tried to do it again. David has issued the decree. The ark of God is to be brought into the city of God, and thousands gathered. David prepared his people for worship. They sang. They shouted. They celebrated. And they danced. They danced with David dancing more fervently of all. This was a noisy affair, with the sounding of rams’ horns, trumpets, cymbals, the playing of lyres and harps. As the ark was entering the city of David, Michal, daughter of Saul, watched from a window. And when she saw King David dancing and celebrating, she despised him in her heart.
(V12) How many of you know that when God is in your house, your are blessed.
David expressed passion for God
David worshiped God in his dance. David, the man after God’s heart, was full of joy, for he expressed his passionate heart well. The song writer wrote, “when the Spirit of The Lord comes upon my heart I can dance like David danced.” When you think about Jesus and all He has done for you, dancing should be in your feet, dancing should be in your heart, and clapping should in your hands.
While Michal observed, she didn’t join the singing or the dancing. She has chosen to watch instead. It was easier for her to stay home. Perhaps she had good reason. Maybe she had a to-do list or perhaps a headache. At her window she stood dignified and royal. As they came in view, she noticed a priest dancing strangely. She said to herself, ”Doesn’t he realize he is making a fool of himself. I need to tell David to instruct his priest to be more dignified. In horror, she realized who the priest was. It was her husband. He had laid aside his royal robes for the simple garment of the priest. A garment of praise.
(Rev. 5:1-6) Then I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals. 2 And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?” 3 But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it. 4 I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside. 5 Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”
6 Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders.
David refused to compete for attention with the Ark of the convent. He was caught up in the celebration. With all of his might he whirled and leapt and did every move that his mind could imagine, to the glory of God, David danced.
** Michael Jackson did the moon walk and thousands went crazy. James Brown did the James Brown, MC Hammer did the Hammer Time and said, “Can’t touch this.” But David, the greatest dancer of all time, danced for The God. When you dance for God, you can rest a sure, nothing can touch that. For God deserves all the praise, all the glory, and all honor. So when you try to get your praise on, or you try to get your dance on, make sure you’re dancing in worship to GOD. When that happens, you don’t have to worry about who’s watching you.
What does the presence of God bring?
Michal scorned the dance
Michal scorned(disrespected) God and David, for the honor of the kingdom, for respect of the palace, for the dignity of the position. Be careful not to disrespect God by forgetting where your blessings some from.
Since Saul was her father, she knew all about position and esteem and all the things that make royalty seem royal. Don’t let those blessings become a curse.
David wanted to share his blessing with the people he loved. How many you want to share the love of Jesus with others. Do I have a witness in the house tonight? I said I wasn’t going to tell nobody, but I couldn’t keep it to myself, what the Lord has done for me.
David wanted to share his blessings. Yet, as he reaches the palace(home), he is met at the door by the voice of sarcasm. When you go home,will you share your blessings with your family? Will you give them Jesus?
Michal was a wounded woman. She knew nothing of David’s heart. Remember, woundedness doesn’t lead to forgiveness but hardness. Her pride was hurt. They say pride comes before the fall. It was pride that entered into Lucifer’s heart that caused him to fall. She was a king’s daughter and the king’s wife. Image, reputation, the look, the name, the status… these things mattered to her.
What does the presence of God bring?
Attacking the heart of worship
The attack was personal. When the heart of worship meets the heart of scorn, it cannot help but be wounded. But Jesus was wounded for me. (Isa. 53:5) But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Something deeper has been attacked. Something bigger than the worshiper but an insult on God. Have you ever been around people that curse with the Lord’s name or use the Lord’s name in vain? It just pricks my soul. The same passion which caused David to dance should erupt inside of you when God is scorned by others.
David explained to his wife, it wasn’t about him dancing in the street, the image, or reputation. It was about God. God must be exalted. God is to receive the glory. We are to be passionate for Him.
What does the presence of God bring?
The observer’s barren soul
(2 Sam 6:23) And Michal daughter of Saul had no children to the day of her death.
A lesson to learn, beware of the barrenness of the soul that comes from being an observer of God rather than a dancer. It is a dangerous thing to be a spectator. We need to beware of the hardening of the heart that comes while being passively setting in the church. (Psalm 51:10) Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
*** Conclusion
So, don’t worry about how you look before people. While listening to your gospel music in your car, you can dance like David danced. When you in the hospital and you’re trying to get well, you can dance like David danced. In the midnight hour and your all alone, you can dance like David danced. When the Spirit of the Lord comes upon your heart, you can dance; When the fire comes down, you can dance.
When the Spirt comes! When the Spirit comes, there is liberty.
When the Spirit comes, He must increase but I must descrease.
