Introduction: The Wrath of God is the beginning of the gospel/O le amataga lea o le tala lelei o le Toasa o le Atua

How can people understand anything about God’s love if they don’t understand God’s hate or displeasure? Pe fa’apefea ona tatou malamalama i le alofa o le Atua, pe afai tatou te le malamalama i le toasa o le Atua?
How can we understand anything about God’s grace if we don’t know anything about His law? Pe fa’apefea ona tatou malamalama i le alofa tunoa o le Atua, pe afai tatou te le malamalama i le fa’asalaga o le tulafono?
How can we understand anything about forgiveness if we don’t understand the full penalty of sin?
Unless men sense that their lives our in grave danger, there will be no pressure or compulsion for people to act or respond to the gospel of Jesus Christ. They will not seek grace and salvation until they are affected with the dread of the wrath of God that is upon them.
Hebrews 1:9 NKJV
You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of gladness more than Your companions.”
“Ua e fiafia i le amiotonu, a ua e ‘ino’ino i le amio leaga.”
God would not be God if he did not deal with sin. God would not be holy if he tolerated unholiness.
Habakkuk 1:13 NIV
Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrongdoing. Why then do you tolerate the treacherous? Why are you silent while the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves?
Habakkuk 1:12 KJV 1900
Art thou not from everlasting, O Lord my God, mine Holy One? we shall not die. O Lord, thou hast ordained them for judgment; And, O mighty God, thou hast established them for correction.
Habakkuk 1:11 KJV 1900
Then shall his mind change, and he shall pass over, and offend, Imputing this his power unto his god.
Habakkuk 1:22
“E sili ona manino ou fofoga, e te le fia silasila i le amio leaga, e le mafai foi ona e silasila i le agasala.”

Noah and the Flood/Noa ma le Lolo
Genesis 6:5–7 NIV
The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.”
Genesis 6:
2. Sodom and Gomorrah/Sotoma ma Komoro
Genesis 18:20–21 NIV
Then the Lord said, “The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know.”
Genesis 18:
“Ona faapea lea a Ieova, O le alaga mai Sotoma ma Komoro ua tele, ma ua matuā tele lava a latou agasala; 21o le mea lea ou te alu ifo ai, ia iloa po ua faia lava e i latou e poi o le alaga ua oo mai ai ia te au; afai foi ua leai, ou te iloa lava.”

And the anger of the Lord was kindled against them; and he departed. And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.
Numbers 12:9 NIV
The anger of the Lord burned against them, and he left them.
“Ona tupu ai lea o le toasa o Ieova ia te i laua, ua afio ese foi o ia…ua lepela Miriama.”
Numbers 12:
Ona tupu ai lea o le toasa o Ieova ia te i laua, ua afio ese foi o ia…ua lepela Miriama.
“Ona tupu ai lea o le toasa o Ieova ia te i laua, ua afio ese foi o ia…ua lepela Miriama.”
5. Ananias and Sapphira/Anania ma Safaira
Acts 5:1–5 NIV
Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet. Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.” When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened.
Acts 5:1-
5Ua faalogo Anania i ia upu, ona paū lea o ia i lalo, ua to lana mānava; ona oo ai lea o le mata‘u tele ia te i latou uma o e na faalogo i nei mea.
6. Final Judgment: Revelation/O le Fa’amasinoga i le tusi o Fa’aaliga
Revelation 6:15–17 NIV
Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and everyone else, both slave and free, hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can withstand it?”

The Wrath of God is against all the godlessness and wickedness of men/O le Toasa o le Atua e fa’atatau i le amio fa’alemata’u ma le amio leaga uma a tagata.

People who suppress the truth with their wickedness/o e taofi i le upu moni ma le amioLEtonu!
They know the truth, but instead of accepting the truth, they suppress the truth.
Have everybody turn to this and read it together
John 3:16-
John 3:16–21 NKJV
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”
1 John 1:5–9 NIV
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Conclusion: This is why we need the Gospel

Paul directly informs us that the reason we need the gospel of Jesus is because we are all under the wrath of God and are headed to hell.
We are all guilty. We are all under God’s wrath. We all deserve death. We all deserve hell.
