The Lords Prayer

Matthew 6:9–15 CSB
9 “Therefore, you should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, your name be honored as holy. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. 14 “For if you forgive others their offenses, your heavenly Father will forgive you as well. 15 But if you don’t forgive others, your Father will not forgive your offenses.
Lets break this down.
Matthew 6:9 CSB
9 “Therefore, you should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, your name be honored as holy.
Jesus Told us that we should pray like this, he doesn’t say that we have to say the prayer the way he said it. He said this is a example for us.
Just like everything else we have looked at, Jesus gives us examples
Matthew 6:10 CSB
10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Here God is showing us that we should pray that God’s will be done here not our own.
So often its easy to sit there and pray that God gives us what we want in life. But we forget to ask God what he wants for our lives and how he wants us to live it. To let him reign in our lives and direct us.
Matthew 6:11 CSB
11 Give us today our daily bread.
I think the Choice of words that Jesus uses here is interesting. He doesn’t say we should pray for abundance or a lot of wealth. He said give us our daily bread or our daily needs. Tomorrow is never promised we need to trust God to provide for our needs today.
This makes us relay on him more and more.
Matthew
Matthew 6:12 CSB
12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
When we brake this down. It showing us we are to forgive others in our lives, if you want God to forgive us.
I know this one can be very hard for some of us. its hard for me at times. But we are called to forgive Just as God forgave us.
Matthew 6:13 CSB
13 And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
Let me be clear God does not do the tempting. But he does allow us to go through struggles and temptation.
He wants us to pick him in all that we do.
it says in
1 Corinthians 10:13 CSB
13 No temptation has come upon you except what is common to humanity. But God is faithful; he will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation he will also provide a way out so that you may be able to bear it.
Matthew 6:14–15 CSB
14 “For if you forgive others their offenses, your heavenly Father will forgive you as well. 15 But if you don’t forgive others, your Father will not forgive your offenses.
