Thanksgiving: Reasons to be Thankful If you could choose to live in any period in history, when would it be and why? _______________________ What are some things in your life that drive you crazy? ___________________________________________ What are some reasons you can come up with for being thankful? Psalms 100:1-5  A psalm. For giving grateful praise. Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.  (2)  Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.  (3)  Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.  (4)  Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.  (5)  For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. According to this Psalmist: List and discuss at least 6 reasons to be thankful? 1. ___________________________ 2. ___________________________ 3. ___________________________ 4. ___________________________ 5. ___________________________ 6. ___________________________ John 3:16-17  For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  (17)  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Thankful for.. ______________________________________________________________________________ Romans 5:6  You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Romans 5:8  But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Thankful for… ______________________________________________________________________________ Romans 6:22-23  But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.  (23)  For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Thankful for… ______________________________________________________________________________ Romans 8:18  I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. Thankful for… ______________________________________________________________________________ Rom 8:26  In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.  Thankful for… ______________________________________________________________________________ Romans 8:34-39  Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.  (35)  Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?  (36)  As it is written: "For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered."  (37)  No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.  (38)  For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,  (39)  neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Thankful for… ______________________________________________________________________________ Ephesians 1:13-14  And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,  (14)  who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession—to the praise of his glory. Thankful for… ______________________________________________________________________________ Hebrews 12:28-29  Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe,  (29)  for our "God is a consuming fire." Thankful for… ______________________________________________________________________________ Hebrews 10:19-22  Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus,  (20)  by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body,  (21)  and since we have a great priest over the house of God,  (22)  let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Thankful for… ______________________________________________________________________________ 1 Corinthians 2:9  However, as it is written: "What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived"— the things God has prepared for those who love him— Thankful for… ______________________________________________________________________________ Next Sunday: Thanksgiving: In ALL Circumstances?
