Knowing someone…

In my house…

• Joshua… morning person… fairly happy to get up and enjoy the day
• Luke… definitely not a morning person… a little bear
• Bethany… our most morning“est” person in the house… like a little bird…
• Rebekah… not great with mornings… but able to muster the energy for hockey or other exciting activities…
• Those dynamics affect the way in which you attempt to wake people up in my house….
• Josh a call down the stairs… up within 2 minutes
• Luke a snuggle… three or four reminders spaced a couple of minutes apart
• Bethany… she’s probably already up and asking if she can make a coffee for you…
• And Rebekah… our top-bunker… I just rest my chin on the edge of her bed and talk softly to her until she creeps over to the edge and snuggles my face…
• It is so much easier when understand who we are dealing with…

Personal:

Our resume should be so impressive…

Just as we attempt to disclose who we are in our resume…

So does God through his Word and his creation introduce us to himself…

Genesis 1-2

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

• Before God there was nothing
• The heavens and the earth… all things above and below…
• Comprehensive statement…

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

• Nothing snuck past God…
• All things came into being…
• No eveidence in all of creation or the stars… etc that things do not have a life cycle…
• Stars are born… stars die…
• Plants and animals… are born and die…
• Everything has a beginning and an ending… even the universe…
• God has created…
• God has sustained…
• God will bring it to conclusion…

God is Sovereign

Psalm 139: 4 Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O LORD, You know it all

Romans 8:28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. 29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; 30 and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.

• There is a bigger plan
• And it functions according to God’s will
• Just as in his power he “spoke” the world into being… it is by his might that “all things” are subject to his sovereignty…
• He knows all… and sits over all…

2 Peter 3: 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.

• What we know and have experienced…It will all come to and end…
• But God will endure… as will we… either in eternal torment… or eternally worshipping and glorify God.
