(That’s cool but what does that mean exactly?)

V 19 (and because) A better hope has a been introduced.

So in this covenant our situation has greatly improved.

V 20 – This promise was supported by a covenant.
V21 That covenant was made by God Himself.
God swore (about Jesus) You are a priest forever.
What does all this mean about Jesus?
(v 22) “He is the guarantor of a better covenant.”
The promise God made to Abraham and the law set up through Moses was sure but couldn’t be guaranteed because it required action on our part, and the continued work of priests.
We now have a covenant that is complete
We now have a high priest who is perfect.
And all this is on the word of God.
What does all this mean to me?

What does it mean to have a better covenant?
We get a glimpse in Hebrews 8:6
Christ mediates a better covenant because it’s based on better promises.
Kind of helps but now I’m wondering what makes it a better promise.
Is that because this promise is more solid?
NO!
Is God saying, I know I promised before, but I really mean it this time.
God cannot lie so NO!
God was not lying when he established the Mosaic law.
The promise is not more curtain!!!
Ok so why is it a better promise?
Let’s look at the promise.
(Read Hebrews 8:8-12)
FIRST CONTEXT…This is quoted from Jeremiah
During a horrible time in the history of Israel.
God is telling them (through Jeremiah), you have sinned, and it is time to give account, so things are about get really bad.
But I’m not giving up on you and the future is ok.
This is what will happen…
Breakdown Hebrews 8:8-12
New Covenant
The Old is gone and the new has come.
With house of Israel & Judah
Two kingdoms will be brought together
Not like the other covenant
You know, the one I gave at the exile that you have never lived up to.
The one that you are currently being judge by
“This covenant I will make with the house of Israel.”
Notice the two kings are now one!
Already getting a sense of restoration.
I will be their God and they shall be my people.
Restoration by grace.
Personal Relationship
...From the least to the greatest...
by faith alone
You don’t have to earn God’s grace.
I will remember their sins no more.
This atonement is complete and eternal
