intro
AW Tozer - No safer place than in the will of God.
Jesus had some very intresting things to say about the Fathers will.
He viewed it in a very unique way.
First of all we must establish the the Father will was Jesus highest priority, even about His own will.
And even when the Father will would have resulted in pain and siffering and even death, Jesus submitted it his will.
Now the problem for many people is that they see the will of God as something opposed on them.
Like dog who wants to run, jump, sniff anmd play, but canot because they have a collor on and a master holding the leash.
This is many people, inclusdinf many christians nview of the will of God. as a restrictive force, as something that takes away your energy as you tug and pull against it.
And this is a terrible view of God’s will.
Jesus most certanily did not see the fathers will as a burden or a chore or something that sucks the life or joy out of him.
Quite the opposite in fdact!
Jesus had just finished a long journey to Sameria and he was tired, thirsty and hungry, while the disciples went to get food, Jesus sat at the well and witnessed to the Sameritan woman, the disciples return and ask Jesus to please eat some food and replentish his energy.
Jesus responds by saying, “I have already eaten, I have already been energised.
My strength had been restored and my thrisr has been satisfied”.
The disciples wonder where he got this hidden meal, but Jesus responds by saying that His styrength, his energy, his nourishment all come from doing the will of his Father.
Instead of seeing it has a chorse and an energy consuming thing, Jesus sees it has a blessing and as a wonderful meal full of goodness and nourishment.
What “meal” did he just eat?
Well in this case it was the will of witnessing to this woman - Jesus did not see this as a burden or a problem.
rather to Him itb looked like a succulent peace of rib-eye witha chilling souce garish and some potato slad.
But of course the will of God is different in every situation, later it would mean healing the sick and everntuall it would mean dying on the cross.
ut how do you see the will of God?
the paslment said:
I delight! - Take a high degree of pleasure in - liking tacking in to a good delishious meal.
I look forwards to those times when I can be obedient to your will, becsuse in obedience I find my strength restored, my weariness melts away and my soul is satisfied with my spiritual food.
in fact, the will of the father is how we know we are God’s chiuldren at all.
Jesus said:
Delighting in and subbmitting to the will of the Fsther is how we grow in our relationship with Jesus.
So we can see that the will of God is not a trivial or side issue - its paramount for us.
But this should not be a problem or even a concern if we see the will of God as Jesus saw it and the psalemt - as a delight and something to look forweard to.
What is ther will of God?
Well where do we begin?
The will of God is simply to do what God says in His Word in any given situation.
They may mean, abstaing from fornication with youor bf or gf, or respecting your parents, or loving your wife or submitting to your husband.
it could mean giving to the poor or sharing the gospel.
It could mean praying when led to and reading the bible, going to church on aSunday...
The list goes on, but with bible reading and prayer we will always know what Goid will is.
How do you view Basic spiritual discaplines that God has commanded us to do?
Daily prayer, bible study, confession?
Weekley church services?
Do you see these things as chorse to tick off IF you habve the energy?
Or do you see them as meals to GIVE you energy?
I was so tired, or had a late night, or just needed to rest… are illigitimate excuses.
Jesus was tired and hungry and thriets - so he did the fathers will and thus ate of beat the disciples knew not!
His obedinec and eagerness was nolt just for the sake of apperence, but from the heart!
And so should ours be, we should delight in the paryer, delight in the word, delight in coming to felloship.
Why then, maybe do you find the will of God a burden?
why then do you at rtimes dread the dragging of yourself out of bed to make the 9 am service?
why do you find the reading of ther word as an exame?
The answer is both simple and shocking, I have 3 possibilties.
1: The main reason is that you are legalistic.
you see these things as works, and works require effort and energy.
2: You are Lazy.
turns over in his bed.
3: you are deceaved.
The devil has robben you of the joy of doing the will of God, by convincing you that its not actually very important if you....
Rekindle the JOY!!!!
