Baby/Parent Dedication

For Steven and Dana Gaston and son Stevie

"“For this boy I prayed, and the Lord has given me my petition which I asked of Him." (1 Samuel 1:27, NASB95)

Minister: The child you hold in your arms is a gift from God. As parents you have been trusted by God to train this child up in the way that it should go. You are to discipline and instruct him in the Lord. You are to teach him diligently, and if you do this scripture says that your child will not depart from your training even when he is old. This teaching and training in righteousness will prepare your child for the challenges of this life, and prepare him for eternal life upon Christ’s return. Steven and Dana, do you commit to train little up little Stevie in the way that he should go, according to Gods will and purpose for him? If so answer we do.

Parents: We do.

Minister: We know that we are to teach our children about God and His son Jesus, but we sometimes forget the example that we set in our own lives. To teach our children to live one way and to act another ourselves, is counterproductive and can damage our children. Bringing your child up in the Lord no only takes words, but actions. Stevie needs to see a strong commitment from you Steven and Dana, to living according to the principles laid out in scripture. Do you commit to lead little Stevie by example as well as with words? If so answer we do.

Parents: We do.

Minister: (to congregation) Steven and Dana have committed to bring Stevie up according to Biblical principles, and to set the example by living faithfully themselves. As their church family, it is your responsibility to keep them accountable to their promise, to be good examples of Christian couples and parents, to pray for them and their commitment to Christ and dedication of Stevie to Him. Will you as their church family commit to help them in this new adventure in their life? If so answer we do.

Congregation: We do.
