Stronger, you’re right; v.13-14
Because Jesus is Righteous (PSA), the Law has been fulfilled - nothing is unclean. (i.e. Eat; religious, sacred, Jewish).
Because Jesus is Christus Victor, demons have had their teeth pulled - cast them out. (i.e. Drink; pagan, common, gentile).
*Limited to food and drink? “Anything” v.21
But never put a stumbling block in the way of a brother.
My eating disorder… “My husband is more valuable than potato chips.”
Never put a stumbling block in the way of a brother...
**Unless it’s Gospel-less trouble. Titus 3.9-11

Offended; v.15-16
Both are offended.
Mr. Weak: “It’s offensive that you would do that.”
Mrs. Strong: “It’s offensive that you would call what’s good to do, ‘evil.’ It’s offensive that you would call me, ‘evil.’
“Fine! I’ll go over here!” (careful examples).
“You (me) drink…smoke…secular radio!”

“You (you) ...” (Feeling the weight of congregational ‘can you do that’ s)
Jew and Gentile;
Understand the context of Rome

Need for Peace; v.17-19
mi: Peace at all costs because Jesus has paid for peace.
There must be holiness. We cannot blatantly sin.
There is holiness in Christ.
“Christians sing of needing Jesus ‘every hour.’ But they’re surprised that other Christians need Jesus. What’s up with that?”
There must be striving for holiness.
(But that is not what this passage is talking about. It’s talking about getting along).
This passage says: Don’t offend your weaker brother.
Be assured that we are all wanting to honor God.
Be assured that we are all thankful to God for what we do.
If someone doesn’t get that, don’t do what offends them in front of them.
Do it in private, honoring God and thankful.
And then they come over to your house and you have to hide it…A story of Jesus in
Not against you.
Against you.
Are you against them or the thing?
Who’s the greatest?
“I’m going to die.”
“They’re doing this.” Okay, I’ll tell them to stop.
“They’re still doing this.” I don’t care! Peace!
“They’re still doing this.” You know what, what are you doing to make peace? – You are CALLED in this passage to grow in your understanding of the Gospel.
mi: Peace at all costs because Jesus has paid for peace.
