“This”

What is this? The answer means everything to those who believe.
The thing he just pointed to in Hebrew 6:13-18
(preview) It’s all about this Oath that God made to Abraham and for us.
Read Gen 22:15-18
· Hebrews highlights what that means for us.
Hebrews 6:13 ESV
For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself,
“He swore by Himself.”
Underlined this promise with the weight of His authority.
Hebrews 6:17 ESV
So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath,
“So when God desired to show …”
More convincingly.
“To the heirs of the promise”
The Promise was given TO Abraham, but was FOR all of us.
The unchangeable character of His purpose.
He guaranteed it with an oath.
Hebrews 6:18 ESV
so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us.
“… we who have fled for refuge …”
We have an Oath and not just any oath
An Oath from God
And the purpose is to give hope when our faith is on the ropes.
Hebrews 6:19 ESV
We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain,
(if this is you…we have some great news for you)
“We have this sure and steadfast anchor for the soul.”
(which is) a hope that enter into the inner place behind the curtain.
Hebrews 6:20 ESV
where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.
forerunner - we will be where He has already gone.
In the presence of God.
High priest forever -
Jesus is both king and priest.
