What is a Protector?

A person or thing that protects to cover or shield from exposure, injury, damage, or destruction: guard a device used to prevent injury: guard supervision or support of one that is smaller and weaker
A protector is one who takes responsibility for keeping someone or something safe. A protector makes it his or her mission regardless of the personal sacrifice or cost.

Who should be protected?

Those who are to weak, poor or helpless to protect themselves.
Psalm 9:9 NASB95
9 The Lord also will be a stronghold for the oppressed, A stronghold in times of trouble;

3 Vindicate the weak and fatherless; Do justice to the afflicted and destitute. 4 Rescue the weak and needy; Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked.

Who should be the protector?

Who ever sees the need and is able.
