Man’s Inability
Man’s Inability
“The natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them,” (). One of the effects of the Fall was an inability to “process spiritual things correctly because of a native hostility against God and all the things of God”.[1] Therefore, mankind must first be enlightened by the Holy Spirit to understand anything God has revealed to us. The Scriptures are clear, were it not for the Holy Spirit of God, man would be so hostile towards God, that it would not even be able to subject himself to the law of God ().

- An intuitive certainty that the Scriptures came from God and are true and authoritative.
- A removal of hostility toward Scripture caused by depravity
- An ongoing capacity to understand the significance of Scripture.
