Introduction: It’s hard at times to be thankful

Bottom Line: Thankfulness is always possible.

1. Thankful for others fruitfulness.

How do you feel when others do well?
How about when things aren’t going well for you? What’s your goal? That you be glorified or Christ? Well, when you put it that way. :-)
- The church had Rome was known for it’s faith. No competition here.
Romans 1:8 NIV
8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world.

2. Thankful for not baptizing people.

1. Thankful for not baptizing many people.

- Thankful he didn’t make things worse!
1 Corinthians 1:14 NIV
14 I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius,

3. Thankful for speaking in tongues.

- Thankful for speaking mysteries to God that builds himself up.
1 Corinthians 14:18 NIV
18 I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you.

- Thankful he didn’t make things worse!

4. Thankful our minds are free.

We aren’t slaves to our emotions, desires and deceptive thoughts.
Your mind is free to sort things out to reframe things to be able to get to the point where you’re thankful.
- We can serve God with our minds any time.
Romans 7:25 NIV
25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.

5. Thankful for everything. ; ;

This flows from a heart filled with the Spirit. It’s spontaneous. All thankfulness isn’t spontaneous.
Ephesians 5:15–20 NIV
15 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- In all circumstances. This is a choice to respond in thankfulness to everything. This is what happens to you.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 NIV
18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
1
- In all you do and say. This is what you do, have to do, choose to do.
Colossians 3:15–16 NIV
15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

Conclusion: Sometimes thankfulness flows, sometimes you have to work at it, but we can always find something about which to be thankful.
