The Gospel: Believe and Confess (Part 7)
Believe and Confess
• Matthew 10:5-8: Restrictive passage
• Romans 10:9-10: Confess and believe in this context are synonymous
Assurance of Salvation
• The fixed confidence as to our present and eternal relationship to God
• The theme of assurance: 1) Certainty comes from understanding, Colossians 2:1-2; 2) Certainty comes from faith, Hebrews 10:22; 3) Certainty comes from hope, Hebrews 6:11.
Three approaches to the security of the believer
• The divine purpose approach: 1) God the Father: His plan, Romans 8:28-30; 2) His power, John 10:27-29; His promise, John 5:24; 2) God the Son, John 17:11, 15; 3) God the Spirit, Ephesians 1:13.
• The logical approach, Romans 5:8-9.
• The family approach, Hebrews 2:11-12; Romans 8:29.
