Good morning.
We continue our series on the Holy Spirit today!
We began this series talk about the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of Life.
Last week we discussed how the Same Spirit in Jesus is the Same Holy Spirit in Us.
Next Sunday Todd will be sharing with you on the Joy of the Holy Spirit.
But today, I want to talk to you about -

Living in the power of the Holy Spirit!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don’t know about you but this has been one of the hardest parts of the
Christian faith I have had to deal with.
Times of power
Over temptation - over my mind - over sickness - etc.
Other times I don’t even feel the Spirit
No power over temptations - no power in prayer - Why??????
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe, you have felt this way as well.
Some days you feel full of the Spirit
Other days not so much.

How Do We Live In The Power of the Holy Spirit?

Acts 2:1–5 NLT
On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability. At that time there were devout Jews from every nation living in Jerusalem.

Put Your Sails Up and Be Willing To Burn

The Spirit is described as WIND and FIRE!
The uncontrollable Wind of God
Wrestles chaos and brings new creation
Breathes life into man
Parts the sea to make escape for Israel
Parts Jordan so Israel can enter the promised land.
Story – Sail boat as a kid - Sail down or pointing in the wrong direction - no move - Sail up and pointing to catch the wind - boat takes off.
In the same way the holy Spirit desires to move us in power through the mighty wind of the Holy Spirit.

If we will put our sails up he will carry us!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Flame –
Mount Siani – Law given – Mount on Fire – New Law – Written on our hearts
He is the fire that burns away our filth and death and reveals the new creation in us.
He is the light that leads men to Christ
John Wesley -
Light yourself on fire with passion and people will come from miles to watch you burn.

The Apostles and the Early Church Lived with their Sails Up

And with their Hair on Fire!

: 1-
Acts 4:1–10 NLT
While Peter and John were speaking to the people, they were confronted by the priests, the captain of the Temple guard, and some of the Sadducees. These leaders were very disturbed that Peter and John were teaching the people that through Jesus there is a resurrection of the dead. They arrested them and, since it was already evening, put them in jail until morning. But many of the people who heard their message believed it, so the number of men who believed now totaled about 5,000. The next day the council of all the rulers and elders and teachers of religious law met in Jerusalem. Annas the high priest was there, along with Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and other relatives of the high priest. They brought in the two disciples and demanded, “By what power, or in whose name, have you done this?” Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers and elders of our people, are we being questioned today because we’ve done a good deed for a crippled man? Do you want to know how he was healed? Let me clearly state to all of you and to all the people of Israel that he was healed by the powerful name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, the man you crucified but whom God raised from the dead.
Acts 4:13-
Acts 4:13–15 NLT
The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus. But since they could see the man who had been healed standing right there among them, there was nothing the council could say. So they ordered Peter and John out of the council chamber and conferred among themselves.
Acts 4:18–22 NLT
So they called the apostles back in and commanded them never again to speak or teach in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John replied, “Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than him? We cannot stop telling about everything we have seen and heard.” The council then threatened them further, but they finally let them go because they didn’t know how to punish them without starting a riot. For everyone was praising God for this miraculous sign—the healing of a man who had been lame for more than forty years.
Acts 4:18-
Acts 4:23-
Acts 4:23–24 NLT
As soon as they were freed, Peter and John returned to the other believers and told them what the leading priests and elders had said. When they heard the report, all the believers lifted their voices together in prayer to God: “O Sovereign Lord, Creator of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them—
Acts 4:31 NLT
After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness.
Acts 4:31
Acts 4:32–35 NLT
All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had. The apostles testified powerfully to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and God’s great blessing was upon them all. There were no needy people among them, because those who owned land or houses would sell them and bring the money to the apostles to give to those in need.

How many of you would like to live in that kind of power?
How many of you would like to be swept up by that kind of Life Giving Wind?

Five Habits to Catch the Wind of God and Live in the Power of the Spirit.

G - Go and Wait
Acts 1:4–5 NLT
Once when he was eating with them, he commanded them, “Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before. John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
Acts 1:
Acts 1:8 NLT
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Don’t get ahead of God
We need to learn to wait in the presence of God - Wait in prayer
Wait until he fills you with Power.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
H- Humble Yourself -
1 Peter 5:6–7 NLT
So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.
1 Peter 5
We are not the saviors
We are not the super heros
The world does not need us, it needs Jesus.
We are servants - conduits of God’s power - He is the super hero.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
O - Obey The Spirit When He Speaks or Guides You.
Acts 13:2–4 NLT
One day as these men were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Appoint Barnabas and Saul for the special work to which I have called them.” So after more fasting and prayer, the men laid their hands on them and sent them on their way. So Barnabas and Saul were sent out by the Holy Spirit. They went down to the seaport of Seleucia and then sailed for the island of Cyprus.
Acts 13:2-
Saul? A Murderer of Believers?
Yes, the Church obeyed the Spirit and it led to the vast expansion of the faith.
Some of you really struggle with this.
You hear the Spirit but you are reluctant to obey.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
S - Specialize in the Gifts the Spirit gives You.
1 Corinthians 12:7–11 NLT
A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.
How does God use you.
Romans 12:
Romans 12:6–9 NLT
In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly. Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good.
1 Peter 4:10–11 NLT
God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.
Exodus 3:1–6 NLT
One day Moses was tending the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian. He led the flock far into the wilderness and came to Sinai, the mountain of God. There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a blazing fire from the middle of a bush. Moses stared in amazement. Though the bush was engulfed in flames, it didn’t burn up. “This is amazing,” Moses said to himself. “Why isn’t that bush burning up? I must go see it.” When the Lord saw Moses coming to take a closer look, God called to him from the middle of the bush, “Moses! Moses!” “Here I am!” Moses replied. “Do not come any closer,” the Lord warned. “Take off your sandals, for you are standing on holy ground. I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” When Moses heard this, he covered his face because he was afraid to look at God.
Exodus 31:1–6 NLT
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Look, I have specifically chosen Bezalel son of Uri, grandson of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. I have filled him with the Spirit of God, giving him great wisdom, ability, and expertise in all kinds of crafts. He is a master craftsman, expert in working with gold, silver, and bronze. He is skilled in engraving and mounting gemstones and in carving wood. He is a master at every craft! “And I have personally appointed Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, to be his assistant. Moreover, I have given special skill to all the gifted craftsmen so they can make all the things I have commanded you to make:
If the Spirit of God is in You, He is also gifting you.
Discover the gift(s) the Spirit works in you and develop it.
February LIFE U will specialize in this discovery.

T - Test Everything Against The Word of God.
1 John 4:1 NLT
Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world.
Acts 17:11
Acts 17:11 NLT
And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth.
Is this from the Spirit?
Is God really asking me to do this?
Test Everything Against the Word of God.
Just because your favorite preacher, said it does not make it God
Just because you want to does not make it God!
TEST IT!.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you will daily!
Go- Wait
Humble Yourself
Obey the Spirit
Specialize in your gift
Test everything against the Word of God
You will Live with Your Sail Up.
Able to catch the wind of God!
