Ghost Story:
Tonight, and only tonight, I want to share one of my all time favorite ghost stories.
THIS ghost story comes FROM the Bible.
And this ghost story has to do with a dark place, a cemetery, and skeletons!
The title of this Ghost Story is called Graveyard Promises.
Here’s why: Tonight, we are going to see where the real power is found and what happens after dark.
So let’s get going.
NARRATE HERE
Dark Place
Cemetery
Skeletons
So what exactly is going on?
Glad you asked, let’s read the actual account of this story and see where the real power is found after dark.
Scripture:
Dark Place - Valley
Cemetery - Dead Bones/Past
God
The real power is found in...
God - present in the Valley with His people and for the sake of the future of His people.
the Holy Spirit - sent from God to make all things new.
New life to His people, Promises fulfilled.
the Word of God - the very trigger for all things made new and the power of God Himself on display through His Word.
The power is found in His promises through His Word.
our obedience - Lastly, our obedience is the funnel by which God’s power is also triggered in this powerful moment of what we see as “dead, old, gone,” but God makes “new, fresh, alive.”
Where exactly can we see that?
8 times throughout these 14 verses God says “I will,” and “He does.”
I don’t have to be afraid with the Holy Spirit.
Walk Away Warning:
A powerful Ghost story about skeletons can turn into a real funny sad story if we’re not careful.
Skeletons can be intimidating and scary in the dark, but there’s nothing more embarrassing than turning on the lights to see what’s really there.
If I were to have a skeleton up here and convince you that this skeleton was powerful and strong with all this lighting on, we’d all have a good laugh.
It’s a skeleton… it represents something has surely died.
The Bible gives a warning about the power of God and death I want us to pay attention to before we dismiss.
The Bible says this:
2 Timothy 3:
The “appearance” of God’s power but neglecting it.
That’s just like me convincing you a skeleton is alive and well, it’s just not true.
