No Other Gospel: The Messenger

Illustration: Kids know! They have an amazing way of being able to discern certain things at such a young age and are much more intelligent than we often give them credit for.

Key: There is NO OTHER GOSPEL. To turn away from Paul’s gospel, or teach anything contrary to it will lead to condemnation.
THE ARGUMENT: arguments are not always in chronological order.
Transition:
Sorry, I can’t talk, I’m in a hurry, I’m late, I’m gonna miss my train.
I’m late, I’m gonna miss my train, I’m in a hurry, I can’t talk.
Body: Paul’s Argument is not in Chronological order, but is logical in his reasoning that they should not turn from his gospel.

(15-16) It was God’s sovereign plan that Paul become His apostle
(13-14) Because Paul was set apart, he did not put himself forward as he did in Judaism
(11-12) God called Paul by revealing Christ directly to him
(16-21) After receiving revelation, Paul avoids all contact with other apostles
No consultation with man
(20-24) Paul has been transformed
(13-24) Paul’s apostleship and gospel came from Christ directly
(10) B/C Paul’s authority and apostleship are from God, he is not a man pleaser, but a God pleaser.
(8-9) Paul condemns anyone who even slightly alters the gospel, including angels.
(6-7) Paul is astonished that so quickly believers are turning from the true gospel to a counterfeit.
Remember: When we hear from Paul, we are hearing from a man who lived at the same time as Jesus and who saw Him after the Resurrection.
Response to Paul: (1) Imposter, not truly an apostle, seeking to deceive the world. (2) Deluded, hallucinating old man, who tricked others into his delusions. (3) Bonified authoritative apostle.
To disagree with the premise that there can be another gospel, we must look Paul in the face and say, “You fake. You fool.”
Conclusion: Galatians was likely the 2nd earliest written book in the NT, and even within 25-30 years after Jesus lived, the gospel was being disturbed and distorted.
There can be many distortions of the gospel. Not other world religions, but slight distortions of the gospel.
Judaism
Mormonism
Unitarian
Catholic
These are often more dangerous.
Illustration: Would a cashier be fooled by monopoly money? No. But they would be supremely susceptible to an approximate counterfeit bill. The devil does not always desire that we become atheists, but if he can keep us in a numbing nominal faith, it is an equal victory. (Screw tape letters)“A moderated religion is as good for us as no religion at all – and more amusing.” (A great point.)

Final: Paul argued that his authority was from God, His purpose was to preach, and his testimony verified the life change. If you turn away from his gospel you are not safe.
Who do you allow to speak into your life? Authors you read, sermons you listen to, preachers you watch. We need to be careful. ask yourself.
(authority)What does the scripture say? Paul received his revelation from Jesus Christ personally. We have in our hands the very words of God and we must know them.
We have copies, we must read them
(purpose) What does this mean
(testimony) How will this change
The American Banking Association in their training program to help tellers never look at a counterfeit bill. All they do hour after hour, day after day, is handle authentic currency until they are so familiar with the true that they can not possibly be fooled with the false. This is the way we should be with the Word of God. (Lou Nicholes - Missionary/Author).
