INTRODUCTION: "A great multitude is coming against you."(20:2)

A.     Have you ever felt like that-That everything is coming against you?

§  The bills are stacking up and your car breaks down.

§  You feel you are just getting ahead and your A/C breaks.

§  You had this trusting friend and now they are betraying you.

§  You have just retired and find out you have malignant cancer.

§  Family seems to be happy and then husband walks out on you.

§  In other words, "a great multitude is coming against you"

§  All of us have felt like that in our lives. Not one person in this room has not ever felt like that.

B.     How do we respond when we feel a great multitude is coming against us?

§  Jehoshaphat was told that a great multitude was coming against them, about to be invaded.

§  War was going to take place upon Judah by the Moabites, Ammonites, and Mt. Seir.

§  HOW DID HE RESPOND?

C.     Explanation of text.

§  Afraid. Ever felt that way?

§  Turned attention to see the Lord and proclaimed a fast.

§  Jehoshaphat & Judah, "realizing their future was bleak" turned to the Lord in praise and worship.

§  They discovered special privileges in their lives when they turned to God in praise and worship.

§  When all is against us and we turn to the Lord we will experience the same privileges of praise.

I.       OUR PRAYERS WILL BE ANSWERED.(20:9)

§  Exp: "cry to thee in distress"-prayer "hear us and deliver us"-answered prayer.

§  App: Since praise puts us at home with God he hears our prayers and answers us.

§  Are your prayers answered? If not, praise the Lord!

II.    OUR EYES WILL BE ON JESUS.(20:12)

§  Exp: Eyes off of enemy-eyes off of one another-eyes on J.C

§  App: Praise puts your eyes on Jesus

III. OUR GOD WILL SPEAK TO US.(20:14)

§  Exp: Spirit came on Jahaziel-God spoke to Jehoshaphat and Judah through this man.

§  App: God will speak to his people when we praise Him--

§  Thru his word, the prophets, circumstances, an inner impression of God's spirit.

§  However, if you praise the Lord you are ready to hear HIM.

IV. OUR GOD WILL FIGHT THE BATTLES.(20:15)

§  Praise places you out of the battle and God in the battle. No reason to fear--God will fight for us.

§  Whatever multitude is coming against you, it is God's battle not yours when you praise him.

V.    OUR LIVES WILL BE GUARDED BY THE PRESENCE OF GOD.(20:17)

§  Don't need to fight-sit still-God will be our salvation-for the Lord is with you.

§  App: Praise places the presence of God around us as a hedge.

VI. OUR HEARTS WILL BE BROKEN IN WORSHIP.(20:18)

§  Exp: Jehoshaphat bowed his head, face to ground, fell down and worshipped the Lord.

§  App: Praise prepares us to worship our God.

VII.          OUR FUTURE WILL BE VICTORIOUS.(20:20-23)

§  Trust in the Lord, trust in God's prophets and succeeded, sang, praised.

§  Praised and their enemies destroyed one another. Victorious because God fought the battle.

§  App: You can win-I can win-When we praise the Lord and let him fight the battles of life.

§  This is a great privilege of praise--We are overcomers through Christ.

§  Why? The cross of Jesus Christ.

§  Since that point we have won the victory. Our church can win if we trust in the cross.
