Introduction

Blood is actually used for different things in the Bible.
The blood of Christ accomplishes multiple things as well.

Offers a Life to God

When man and Creation were originally created, it was made by God and it was perfect.
Genesis 1:31
Genesis 1:31 KJV 1900
And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
Once man sinned, God lost the perfect man that He had.
When Jesus came from Heaven, He lived a perfect life.
1 Peter 2:22
1 Peter 2:22 KJV 1900
Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
That perfect life would be offered as a sacrifice back to God.
Romans 5:15
Romans 5:15 KJV 1900
But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.
Hebrews 10:12
Hebrews 10:12 KJV 1900
But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
Life is said to be in the blood.
Leviticus 17:11
Leviticus 17:11 KJV 1900
For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
Jesus not only shed some blood, but gave up His whole life.
1 John 3:16
1 John 3:16 KJV 1900
Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

Acts as a Cleansing Agent

A cleansing agent is simply something that gets out dirt or stains.
We use cleansing agents such as soap or detergent to get out dirt or stains from dishes, clothing, etc.
Our stain that separates us from God is sin.
Isaiah 59:1-2
Isaiah 59:1–2 KJV 1900
Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; Neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, And your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
Since Jesus lived a perfect life, He was without blemish or spot. He then offered His perfect blood.
1 Peter 1:18-19
1 Peter 1:18–19 KJV 1900
Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
That blood not only served as a perfect sacrifice of a perfect life, but it acts as a cleansing agent to wash away sin.
We come into contact with the death of Christ and His blood in baptism.
Romans 6:4
Romans 6:4 KJV 1900
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
By coming into contact with His death, we come into contact with His blood which was shed in death. That blood then acts as a cleansing agent to wash away sin.
Acts 22:16
Acts 22:16 KJV 1900
And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
When you want something really clean, it doesn’t make sense to start with dirty water. If you want to clean your clothes or dishes, it would be better to start with clean water. We could not be the perfect sacrifice or the cleansing agent because we have already sinned. But Jesus’ blood was from a perfect life and is the perfect cleansing agent for our sin.

Seals the Covenant

A covenant is an agreement between people. Sometimes blood is used to seal the covenant.
In Western movies, the cowboy and Indian might seal their peace agreement by cutting their hands and pressing them together. They have used blood to seal the covenant.
In modern times we might seal agreements with signatures and handshakes, but in the Old Testament, blood was used to seal the promise that the people made to follow God’s commandments.
Exodus 24:7-8
Exodus 24:7–8 KJV 1900
And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the Lord hath said will we do, and be obedient. And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the Lord hath made with you concerning all these words.
For the New Covenant, the blood of Jesus was used.
Hebrews 12:24
Hebrews 12:24 KJV 1900
And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
Luke 22:20
Luke 22:20 KJV 1900
Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
Hebrews 10:29
Hebrews 10:29 KJV 1900
Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

Conclusion

God loved us enough to send His Son to die as a perfect sacrifice to pay the penalty for our sins.
The blood of Jesus:
was the life of Jesus offered back to God
was the cleansing agent to wash away our sins
sealed the covenant between man and God
The grace of God offered His Son as a perfect sacrifice to pay the penalty for our sins.
The New Testament states that if we will keep His commandments, we will be added to the church, the body of the saved, the kingdom of God.
Matthew 7:21
Matthew 7:21 KJV 1900
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Once we are saved, we are washed clean and added to the body which will be presented without blemish.
Ephesians 5:25-27
Ephesians 5:25–27 KJV 1900
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
If we do what God asks, He will give us eternal life.
Revelation 2:10
Revelation 2:10 KJV 1900
Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
We know that this agreement is true. The New Testament has been sealed in the blood of God’s own Son.
