Elijah drops in on the scene.
I. His Proclamation.
“As the Lord lives, before whom I stand, there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except at my word.”
§ Elijah, what are you doing?
What risk are you incurring?
Putting honor of Jehovah at stake.
§ Will they not ridicule not only you, but God also, if there is a delay in this?
§ Yes, but Elijah is not afraid of this.
He knows the word of the Lord is truth.
He is an ordinary person.
He prays for God to do something.
§ Amen was the answer from heaven.
§ Elijah took the Amen as a sword in his hand.
With it he prophesized drought with Divine infallibility.
§ The wole country of Samaria seemed to shake her head at it and laugh at his prediction.
§ The luxuriant pastures and well-watered fields mocked his words.
The springs and rivers said otherwise.
§ But Elijah – was not confounded.
With the word of God in his hand, what were outward appearances and circumstances compared to his God’s commands?
§ His voice was more mighty than that of many waters, and no earthly reliance could prevail against the God of Israel.
He boldly announces what God will do.
He prays again – and God again answers.
II.
Conclusion.
§ Do you also believe the Amen, which you have received from God in your heart concerning his adoption of you and His grace toward you?
§ Do not be confounded either by your objecting nature or by the devil (the arguing accuser).
§ Keep a firm hold by faith of the Divine Amen given to you and abide in it, and say, “As the Lord lives before whom I stand, nothing shall condemn me, or separate me from the love of God in Christ Jesus.”
§ Does Elijah sleep, forgetting to reopen what he has shut?
Church, you people of his possession, you are as Elijah.
Your voice can call forth clouds and rain.
§ Arise and call upon your God, for “the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”
Pray for dew and rain upon the dry land, and then announce from the Amen of your heart, and announce it and say, “the drought will soon be at an end, get up, eat and drink, and be joyful, for there is a sound of abundance of rain.”
Healing rain.
