9-8-19 2 Samuel 20-21 "What are You Leaving Behind?"
2 Samuel 20-21: “What are You Leaving Behind?”
Grip on the Kingdom
After Absalom, David faced an immediate challenge to the kingdom
(2 Samuel 20:1-2).
Adonijah challenged David’s plan for Solomon to rule after him (1 Kings 1:5-10).
Too often people actively or passively leave messes for others to clean up.
David worked to ensure there was no question to Solomon’s kingship
(1 Kings 1:28-35).
Provide for Success (1 Chronicles 22:5)
More than not leaving chaos, we should take steps to see the next generation succeed.
David takes great effort to get the temple ready for Solomon to build
(1 Chronicles 22:1-5).
David does enough so that when Solomon steps in he basically just has to
say “go”.
We must be looking ahead to see what will help provide the next generation
with success.
Reminder to Follow the Lord
1 Chronicles 28:9 shows what all of this is really about.
David points out the consequences of choosing follow God or not.
We have a magnificent God who is worth following and leading others to
follow.
We must tell others to follow Jesus and then do what we can to help see that happen.
