One reason we settle East of the Jordan is because of that treacherous river that blocks our path. How do you cross over? Where is the path that leads to life, to God’s plan for me?

I.       Very often God waits for us to step out on faith before he opens the way for us. (3:6)

A.     Priests commanded to cross over without knowing how.

B.     God asks for first-fruits without showing the rest of the harvest.

C.     He commanded Peter to step out and come to Him – without Peter knowing how.

D.     God’s frustration – when we demand proof before faith.

§  In the desert, complaints – “wicked and perverse generation”.

§  In the storm-tossed boat – “oh ye of little faith”.

II.    When we look to God, we find He has prepared the way (3:11).

A.     The ark would go first – signified that God prepared the way, the location, the path for crossing.

§  The way still not revealed, the means were still a mystery.

§  The priests obeyed in what they knew to do.

B.     Today, we still need to find where God is leading and follow Him.

§  Where the ark once stood for God’s dwelling – the Holy Spirit now does.

§  Where prophets, Moses & Joshua, once gave commands – the Word now does.

C.     Don’t mistake fatalism for faith.

§  Fatalism will get you drowned.

§  Fatalism has no hope, no trust in God.

§  Faith looks to God and trusts in where God is taking you.

§  People of faith know the voice of the Shepherd and follow Him.

§  People of faith will set aside their pleasures, take up a cross and follow Him.

§  People of faith joyfully sing, “Walking with Jesus has been the greatest thrill I’ve ever known.”

D.     We are to look to the God who is ruler of all the earth (3:13).

§  Israel marched in knowing their God had a right to the land, they were given what they did not deserve, by His sovereign choice to do so.

III. We ALL who know Christ are on a march – to Zion.

A.     We are told of a promised land. - Hebrews 12:18-20-26.

B.     We don’t know how we get over there, across the Jordan that leads to everlasting life.

§  We see a treacherous river, called death. Those who enter do not come out.

§  We don’t know how we pass from death to life – we are just told to look to Jesus (the ark).

§  We don’t know how – but we trust and know we will.

§  We do not know how we step from this life to the next – yet the Bible says we do.

2Co 5:8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

§  When that moment comes, we will be called upon to step into the waters of death – only death never comes!

§  Where there was fear will be dry ground. In a moment we’ll see a way we have trusted by faith to be there.

§  Faith will become sight.

Phi 1:21-23 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22 But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell. 23 For I am hard pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.
