Introduction -

Good morning! Today we begin a series on the Holy Spirit, The Spirit of LIFE!
Each week we will start the series off with a short testimony of the work of the Spirit in the life of one of our own. Today my wife Callie is going to share a quick testimony of power of healing from the Spirit.
Callie
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Over the next few weeks we will be talking about -
The Holy Spirit in the ministry of Jesus
Unity through the Spirit of God-
Pentecost - The power and presence of the Holy Spirit - He is in us not just on us.
The greatest gift to the Church - Spiritual gifts and the equipping of ministry
The Spirit empowerment to live in freedom -
The Spiritual Power to live in service to others -
The power over chaos and death through the Holy Spirit - Gifts of the Spirit
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But today we begin by looking at the dominate character of the Spirit of God - Life Giver!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
October is my favorite month to talk about the Holy Spirit.
During this month we often think of evil spirits, ghosts, and death.
This month is often used to celebrate death through what has become a comical ritual.

But I want to use this month to talk to you about the Spirit of Life.

Sometimes the Holy Spirit gets a bad rap.
People get spooked that any mention of the Spirit means weird things are about to happen.

What we often think of normal is actually the acceptance of death.

(Simon and Cathy Rodriguez’ baby born dead./ called in to pray/ weird but I pronounced life not death/ looked like a fool/ until the baby girl came alive/
What at first may have seemed weird to the doctors became evidence of the Spirit of Life.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Spirit of God is the Life Giver and Life Sustainer.

Genesis 1:2–3 NLT
The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
Genesis 1:1 NLT
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Alton Garrison said it this way.
The Hebrew word for Spirit is Ruah - It means spirit, breath, or wind.
“The Holy Spirit does not make anyone weird, if they are weird they were weird before the Holy Spirit.”
The Spirit of God or the breath of God that carries His word was hovering over the chaos and the emptiness, the barrenness of new creation.
From the start we see the Spirit of God manifesting God’s words of Life.
Genesis 2:7 NLT
Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.
The word breath here is the same word Ruah - Spirit.
God breathed his Spirit of life into the lungs of his creation.
Humanity could not live, think or be animated in any way if it were not for the Spirit of Life.
Job 34:14–15 NLT
If God were to take back his spirit and withdraw his breath, all life would cease, and humanity would turn again to dust.
Job 34
Every creature is animated by the Spirit of God.
What we call life is the result of the Holy Spirit.

The Spirit of God Desires To Bring Order To Your Chaos and Life to Your Death.

Allow me to share 5 Ways the Spirit of Life Desires Bring Order and Life to Us.

He desires to free you from sin that leads to death.

Romans 8:1–5 NLT
So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins. He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit. Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit.
Romans 8:1–4 NLT
So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins. He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit.
The Spirit never condemns us, he will convict us but he will never condemn us.
The Spirit desires to gently lead us from death and chaos
(X-con stuck in broom closet/ nurse getting naked/ save me God/ Open the door and run dummy. )
If you will listen the Spirit will always show you the way out of sin and into Life.
This is not a law leading us but rather the person of the Spirit in us.
Ezekiel 36:26–27 NLT
And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations.
This is not a law code written down - No the Spirit is God dwelling in His people.
Wherever you go, he is with you, in you, guiding you, if you will listen.

2. He desires to bring Peace and Healing to Your Mind.

Romans 8:5–6 NLT
Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.
Romans 8:
Porn, drugs, alcohol, hatred, unforgivness , all these lead to death and are fought in our minds.
Paul reminds us that it is the Spirit of God who brings peace and life to our minds.
The Holy Spirit gives us power to resist and power to control our minds.
It is futile to assume we can do this on our own.
2 Corinthians 10:4–5 ESV
For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,
It is only by the Spirit not our strength.

3. He desires to bring Life and Healing to your bodies..

Romans 8:10–11 NLT
And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God. The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.
Romans 8:
Is healing for today? If God is the same yesterday and today then Yes!
If the Spirit raised Jesus from the Dead, will you trust Him to bring life to your bodies?
The Holy Spirit desires to Heal you, your womb, your mind, your heart, your body.
He is the Spirit of Life.

4. He desires to affirm that you are a child of God.

Romans 8:14–17 NLT
For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.
Some of you come from rough homes, absent or abusive fathers.
:
Through the Holy Spirit God desires to father you in love and kindness.
It is the Spirit in us that gives us the confidence that we are children of God.
As children we are promised that through the Spirit we will one day be made into the Image of God.
2 Timothy 1:7 NLT
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
The Holy Spirit leads us out of fear and into power, love and self-control.
Do you want religion and fear or do you want the Spirit and freedom?

5. He desires to bring power and life to your prayers.

Romans 8:26–27 NLT
And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.
Romans 8:26-27
I love this, when we do not know what to pray the Spirit prays for us.
He is God and therefore knows the mind of God
He knows the will of God for us and prays through us in the Father’s Will.
Groaning - Tongues/ crying/ Groaning.
1 Corinthians 14:13–19 NLT
So anyone who speaks in tongues should pray also for the ability to interpret what has been said. For if I pray in tongues, my spirit is praying, but I don’t understand what I am saying. Well then, what shall I do? I will pray in the spirit, and I will also pray in words I understand. I will sing in the spirit, and I will also sing in words I understand. For if you praise God only in the spirit, how can those who don’t understand you praise God along with you? How can they join you in giving thanks when they don’t understand what you are saying? You will be giving thanks very well, but it won’t strengthen the people who hear you. I thank God that I speak in tongues more than any of you. But in a church meeting I would rather speak five understandable words to help others than ten thousand words in an unknown language.
Weird? Yea if you choose not to follow Paul’s directions -
But when done properly there is life, knowing that the Spirit of God is praying for you and through you.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is no reason to fear the Holy Spirit. He does not make you weird, he is not scary.

He is the Spirit of LIFE

He desires to free you from sin and death.
He desires to bring peace to your mind.
He desires to bring life and healing to your bodies
He desires to affirm you as a child of God.
He desires to bring power and life to your prayers.

He is the Spirit of Life.
