Introduction: Where does confidence come from?
Does it come from experience or knowledge?
Some professional athletes suffer from anxiety, because they doubt themselves (like the basketball player at the free throw line or the golfer on the last hole of the match).
They lack confidence despite the fact that they have the experience and the knowledge.
As saints of God, we can also struggle with having confidence.
After you have heard some of John’s statements from this epistle, you may be asking yourself the following: “If I die today, will I open my eyes in the presence of the Lord or will I find that Hell is my eternal dwelling.”
You might be wondering whether or not you will hear the Lord say, “Servant, well done!” or “Depart from Me, you worker of iniquity!”
Don’t answer out loud but I have to ask.
This morning are you experiencing
Doubt or are you Confidence
Uncertainty or are you Certainty
Reservation or are you Secure
Skepticism or are you Sure
If you are doubting your eternal destination, or if you have uncertainty concerning your fate when the Lord returns?
Let us listen to the message John gave the saints who had deceivers telling them that they needed more.
They needed more knowledge and more understanding.
These fake preachers disturbed the early saints with their “supernatural speech”
