Judges 13-14
Verse 1
Again we see the same pattern in the life of Israel.
This time they are given into the hands of the Philistines for 40 years.
Verses 2-3
Zorah = hornet - It was about 15 miles west of Jerusalem in the tribe of Dan’s alloted land.
Manoah = rest
Angel of the LORD = A Christophany

Nazarite.
You might remember the Nazarite vow from
Verses 6-7
Verses 8-14
Verses 15-18
We see the obviousness of the Angel being the Lord since no angel of God would accept a sacrifice.
Also the Angel gave another hint when He said “Why do you ask my name, seeing it is wonderful”
Wonderful as you may remember is what Jesus is called in Isaiah.
Verses 19-21
Verses 22-23
We shall surely die.

Verses 24-25
Samson = like the sun
Chapter 14
Verses 1-3
In the NT the Christian has a similar command...
Verse 4
God had a plan in all of this.
Even though Samson was violating God’s command to not intermarry, God would still bring about His own purpose.
But imagine what God might have done in and through Samson, if Samson was obedient to God’s word.
Verses 5-9
OK, we have multiple issues here.
As a Nazarite from birth and that call being till death in Samson’s life he was to abstain from the fruit of the vine.
Although Samson did not actually eat or drink from the grapes he was content to be in the vineyard.
This is the power of temptation.
We know that there are certain things to abstain from, but we find ourselves dangerously and comfortably close to those things.
Soon enough we will succumb to the temptation and complacency in our lives and be right where the enemy wants us.
No doubt Satan wanted Samson to live close to sin.
Well, lets look at the other issue here.
The carcass of the lion.
The person under the Nazarite vow was to stay away from dead bodies...
Significantly, Samson did this after he was remarkably filled with the Holy Spirit.
This shows that an outpouring of the Holy Spirit does not automatically make a person godlier.
An outpouring of the Holy Spirit gives one the resources to be godlier, but it doesn’t “do it to” them.
A person can be wonderfully gifted by the Holy Spirit and yet very spiritually immature.
Notice Also that Samson was deceitful by not telling his parents where the honey came from.
Maybe he knew his parents would have rejected the honey and had a sit down with him to talk about his rebellion against the God that had called him to be a Nazarite.
Verses 10-11
feast = a bachelor party, lit the Hebrew word speaks of a drinking party.
Why is a Nazarite hosting a drunkfest?
Verses 12-14
Changes of clothing - this is the nice clothes, in our day it might be a well tailored suite.
