The Passover with the Disciples
getting ready for passover
17 Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Where will you have us prepare for you to eat the Passover?”
whats that? direct celebration of israel coming out of egypt.
ceremony - night before they left, known as passover
there was a ceremony that God had them perform the night before they left.
end of ten plagues
Name them? water to blood, frogs, gnats, flies, livestock, boils, hail, locusts, darkness, last plague? firstborn shall die
if im being good to my family, i will protect them from someone who is directly trying to threaten them and hurt them
So Moses said, “Thus says the Lord: ‘About midnight I will go out in the midst of Egypt, and every firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne, even to the firstborn of the slave girl who is behind the handmill, and all the firstborn of the cattle. There shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there has never been, nor ever will be again. But not a dog shall growl against any of the people of Israel, either man or beast, that you may know that the Lord makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.’
(ESV)
4So Moses said, “Thus says the Lord: ‘About midnight I will go out in the midst of Egypt,
5and every firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne, even to the firstborn of the slave girl who is behind the handmill, and all the firstborn of the cattle.
6There shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there has never been, nor ever will be again.
7But not a dog shall growl against any of the people of Israel, either man or beast, that you may know that the Lord makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.’
Exodus 11:4–7 ESV
4 So Moses said, “Thus says the Lord: ‘About midnight I will go out in the midst of Egypt, 5 and every firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne, even to the firstborn of the slave girl who is behind the handmill, and all the firstborn of the cattle. 6 There shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there has never been, nor ever will be again. 7 But not a dog shall growl against any of the people of Israel, either man or beast, that you may know that the Lord makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.’
Exodus 12:3–13 ESV
3 Tell all the congregation of Israel that on the tenth day of this month every man shall take a lamb according to their fathers’ houses, a lamb for a household. 4 And if the household is too small for a lamb, then he and his nearest neighbor shall take according to the number of persons; according to what each can eat you shall make your count for the lamb. 5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male a year old. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats, 6 and you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month, when the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill their lambs at twilight. 7 “Then they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. 8 They shall eat the flesh that night, roasted on the fire; with unleavened bread and bitter herbs they shall eat it. 9 Do not eat any of it raw or boiled in water, but roasted, its head with its legs and its inner parts. 10 And you shall let none of it remain until the morning; anything that remains until the morning you shall burn. 11 In this manner you shall eat it: with your belt fastened, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. And you shall eat it in haste. It is the Lord’s Passover. 12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the Lord. 13 The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt.

we go on in the story and and what God talks about, what he said would happen happened and they all left that very next morning, 600,000 men, not including women and children. all poof, gone in a day. this is why in history Egypt falls off the map. the bible says that they plundered the Egyptians as they left. almost all of their slave labor, most of their silver and gold and later on we read that almost their whole army drowned in the red sea. the egyptians power is gone in history at this point.
7 “Then they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. 8 They shall eat the flesh that night, roasted on the fire; with unleavened bread and bitter herbs they shall eat it. 9 Do not eat any of it raw or boiled in water, but roasted, its head with its legs and its inner parts. 10 And you shall let none of it remain until the morning; anything that remains until the morning you shall burn. 11 In this manner you shall eat it: with your belt fastened, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. unfit for travel - often referring to a weak, wounded, failing person;

often referring to a weak, wounded, failing person;
Swanson, J. (1997). Dictionary of Biblical Langu
after 300-400 years of harsh slavery, all were healthy enough to get up and go immediately. what happened?
Exodus 12:7–11 ESV
7 “Then they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. 8 They shall eat the flesh that night, roasted on the fire; with unleavened bread and bitter herbs they shall eat it. 9 Do not eat any of it raw or boiled in water, but roasted, its head with its legs and its inner parts. 10 And you shall let none of it remain until the morning; anything that remains until the morning you shall burn. 11 In this manner you shall eat it: with your belt fastened, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. This very same ceremony that the israelites did coming out of egypt is exactly what jesus was doing the night he sat with his disciples and said take this eat and then take this and drink.
1 Corinthians 11:30 ESV
30 That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some have died.
(ESV)
(ESV)
30 That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some have died.
there is healing in our physical bodies for us by the grace of God in communion
there is something supernatural that happens in our physical bodies when we take communion.
the israelites didnt know what was going to happen but they ate that night and supernaturally by a foreshadowing of what jesus would eventually do they were completely healed.
how much more the substance, to not have just a shadow but jesus himself breathing life and healing into our physical bodies.
The lambs in israel were sacrificed that night to take the blood that was put on the door frame of the house, the lamb was then roasted on a fire to be eaten that vey night
this is a shadow of the lamb of God himself, jesus our savior, who came and died and hos body went through the fiery trial of the cross and his body was scourged and his body broken so that ours would be healed by his stripes we are healed this is one of the great hopes we have in this life is to not have sickness and disease ravage our bodies but that we by the grace of God are a people that live differently because we see healing and health in our physical bodies by what Jesus has done for us.
When Jesus went through the scourging and the cross it was setting up the new covenant. a new way of living.
a shadow of what jesus was going to do in an old covenant saw health to millions
the substance is even better. and we have that substance not the shadow in Jesus
Luke 19
(ESV)
19 And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 20 And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.
Luke 22:19–20 ESV

Paul tells us
we remember he did this for us, he gave his body over to the pain
We break the bread,
1 Corinthians 11:23–30 ESV
23 For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. 27 Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord. 28 Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself. 30 That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some have died.

1- family was Gods idea - created it, he took a second or a million years we dont really know how that works with God, but he said whats one of the best things that i could give my creation, he potentially couldve given us any number of things, i dont know how gods thoughts work the bible tells us we wont know that, how much has come out of his brain, sometimes kinda like a kids, it just has so much over and over over and over they say the darndest things..
video
out of his brain - seen what comes out of kids brains
God created humor did you know that? God created philosophy, and communication, and peace and love and the clouds and oxygen , rainbows, and the girraffe he created all of these amazing things we find in our world and at the very top of the list is the family. if woman was the crown of creation the family is beauty that helps make it all work.

24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
it was his idea..
we have so many times thought of our own on what is right and what is wrong and one of the things that can get messed up is the family and marriage. when we begin to think we know whats best for our marriage and family before Thinking about what is god thinking that’s when we fall really hard
(ESV)
Put On the New Self
3 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Colossians 3:1–3 ESV

see the world puts its own spin on what a family is or could be but we know and see that always leads to pain and hurt and brokenness
can you imagine if every girl lets just say in america, grew up with a dad who loved her.. what would that look like, im not even talking about being perfect, jus there and present making his presence known
same goes for boys.. broken families are not gods design but thankfully brokenness doesnt have the last words in our families, whether you are from a broken home or just a home with bad things happening cause jesus isnt lord yet for some, thats not the last word or the most pwerful word, god can restore and is resoring right now by the grace of God. on and on we could go
God created the family

John 13:34–35 ESV
34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
John 13:34 ESV
34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.
love is what shows people God is here with us
godly love is what changes the world - word is agape
when people see that oh man was he really just patient with that guy? i wouldve eaten him alive.. was that couple really that kind and considerate to that homeless guy? that family wanted ot give something to a family in need and didnt want the credit to boast about it. i wouldve wanted my own way fought for it tooth and nail and insisted that this is my way or the highway, love where the rubber meets the road where love is not irratble or resentful, it does not rejoice in wrongdoing but rejoices in the truth
1 Corinthians 13:4–8 ESV
4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.

Gods love is the example of God in a world that is destroying itself by being all about me and what i want. and when the world sees a family or a marriage that centered on living the way Jesus has set it up it changes everything
Ephesians 5:25–33 ESV
25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. 28 In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, 30 because we are members of his body. 31 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” 32 This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. 33 However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
(ESV)
(Notes) vs 25 - the way to love for a husband is to lay down your needs as christ did, to help her and serve in a way that reflects what jesus has done and is doing now,
vs 32 profound, marriage is patterned after jesus and his church.
jesus so loved his church john 3:16 for god so loved, or god loved the world so much he laid it down, it was never about him unless it was how he helps
and the church in response to gods love and gods sacrifice and gods goodness, and his grace and mercy and on and on he gives and never stops giving when theres a love that never stops giving its very difficult not to respond to such incredible love. and the world needs this love, but who will go and tell and show gods love to a dying generation a generation that could be at the very end of history, the rapture and jesus coming back is very soon and God has placed us at this incredible moment in time to be the very hands and feet and mouth and heart of jesus to those around us. To not only be familystrong in physical relation but to take that love and bring others into His family
Families are one of Gods main ways of connecting and reaching into the world around us.
the family is a way we reach out
theres so much i could say about how families are a testimony, someone whos been married for 60 years, what about when theres 8 kids and all are incredibly behaved, and respectful and kids that serve the lord , what kind of testimony is that to those who dont know how to discipline and grow a child in the ways of Jesus, what about when theres loss in a family and the world sees that the response isnt the same way the world loses because the bible says they are only sleeping and we’ll see them again, kids that serve the lord, and as many different people and situations that are out there all the ways families can be a testimony
last thing i have for us this morning are 2 quick points
how de we be #familystrong like this
1. Strong families read the bible together - this is with or with out kids
marriage example
34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise.
Paul, after spending time with Jesus, learns this amazing truth
So let’s build strong families.
Strong families read the word together - this is with or with out kids
Practical ways to do this
Testimonies
hope
Don’t stop when you’re adults as a family
2. Strong families pray together - with or without ids

A boy asks his father, "Dad, are bugs good to eat?" "That's disgusting. Don't talk about things like that over dinner," the dad replies. After dinner the father asks, "Now, son, what did you want to ask me?" "Oh, nothing," the boy says. "There was a bug in your soup, but now it’s gone."
A 3 years old boy sits near a pregnant woman. Boy: Why do you look so fat? Pregnant woman: I have a baby inside me. Boy: Is it a good baby? Pregnant woman: Yes, it is a very good baby. Boy: Then why did you eat it?!
When my three-year-old son opened the birthday gift from his grandmother, he discovered a water pistol. He squealed with delight and headed for the nearest sink.
I was not so pleased. I turned to Mom and said, "I'm surprised at you. Don't you remember how we used to drive you crazy with water guns?"
Mom smiled and then replied, "Oh I remember!"
