Intro:

AG:
TS: The book of Hebrews clearly teaches that Jesus Christ is supperior.
HE is the eternal creator of heaven and earth.
He is greater than all the angels.
Today, we continue with the thought that He is superior to all of the human race.
Recognize that this is different.
He is superior to angels because He is God
HE created them
He is served by them.
However, He is man as well.
When Jesus took on flesh, HE limited Himself to a human body.
He is the superior man.
Adam sinned and passed that nature on to all of us.
Jesus DID NOT!
Thus He can give us His righteous nature.
RS:
RS: All the blessings of the faith are possible because of the perfection of Jesus.

Made Perfect through Suffering

Hebrews 2:10–13 ESV
For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering. For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers, saying, “I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.” And again, “I will put my trust in him.” And again, “Behold, I and the children God has given me.”

Fitting

Jesus did
what was right and proper
He did what was appropriate
He fulfilled God’s eternal plan as HE became the founder of our salvation
Even though it cost Christ greatly, it was consistent with God’s holiness.
You see, without His suffering, there would be no redemption.

Make the founder perfect through suffering

Founder of salvation

Jesus is the author of salvation
He is the origin of our redemption
Hebrews 5:9 ESV
And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him,
Heb 5:
Jesus is the source

Made perfect through suffering

Contrary to popular and misleading opinion, we aren’t always to expect positive things.
Jesus was made perfect through suffering.
As GOD HE is eternally perfect
As a Man, He completed His purpose and fulfilled the plan of salvation through His atoning sacrifice.
He suffered to purchase our redemption.
Thus He perfected salvation

Bringing many sons to glory

Our perfect savior brought us into the family

By sanctification

He made us holy and set apart.
He did this by cleansing from sin and placing in the position of sanctified.
He has made us holy
Matthew 3:15 ESV
But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented.
,
Philippians 3:8 ESV
Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ
Mt 3
Philippians 3:19 ESV
Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things.

By calling us family

Jesus said
Matthew 12:50 ESV
For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”
Hebrews quotes from the OT (, )
The emphasis is on Jesus becoming flesh.
He thus brings about the reality of our relationship as family.
calls us brothers & children
He makes us part of God’s family by adoption
children

Perfect Deliverance

Hebrews 2:14–18 ESV
Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham. Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
-1

He partook of life

HE took on flesh to live a human life
He knows what we feel
He knows what it is to be human
hunger
fatigue
frustration
The only difference is that when tempted, He said no.

He partook of Death

Jesus did more than just partake of life, He also partook of death.
He died on our behalf
He died to pay for our sin.
In doing so He

Defeated the Devil

Satan was knocked out by Jesus’ crushing blow at the cross.
The just died for the unjust
The innocent paid the price owed by the guilty.
He did that because of love.

Delivered the Believers

In defeating Satan and sin he delivers us

He continues to help

Because HE knows what we face, HE is able to help.
He knows what we need
HE knows the lure of sin
He enables us to escape
He stands before the Father in our defense.
Will you receive His help today

Conclusion:

RS: Jesus, fully God and fully man, tasted death on our behalf so that we could become the children of God. He did this because He loves us. He put us ahead of His own interests.
AS: What does He ask of us?
To follow Him.
Follow Him in repentance and faith and thus have your sins washed away.
Follow Him in sanctification
Obey Him
Live for Him
Live LIKE Him
IS: Please commit to follow Him today
