No Introduction Needed

What is different about this letter?
Why did it start so abruptly?
What can we learn from the way it started?
Set foundation early so we build properly.
Jesus Christ is superior in every way.
You must understand these truths about Christ before you can truly comprehend this letter!

Long ago vs in these last days

The agent of God’s revelation.
God’s used to speak to prophets
The recipient of God’s revelation
Our relationship with God has now changed.
He (God) has spoken to us by His Son (Jesus Christ)
God’s revelation to us is complete.
Whatever you want to know about God & His plans you find in Jesus.

He appointed heir of all things

“Heir” shows Jesus authority.
A servant carries out orders
An heir has the same authority as the master.

Also, through Him (Christ) He (God) created the whole world.

Points to the Trinity
Gen 1:1 – God created
John 1:3 – in Him (the word) all things were made
Heb 1:2 – Through Him (Jesus) He (God) created the world
How can trinity be true?
God is spirit…

Jesus is “the radiance of the glory of God”

God’s glory is the very light in heaven.
We observe that light now in Jesus.

Jesus is “the exact imprint of His (God’s) nature

We can see God when we look at Jesus.

And (Jesus) “upholds the universe by the word of His power.

Upholds the universe:
Colossians 1:17 ESV
And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
His power created life and his love sustains it.
“The word of His power”
Shouldn’t it read the power of His word?
Is the author just trying to be theatric?

He first made purification for our sins

Jesus is the Messiah
Jesus came with a purpose

Then He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on High

He sat down…
His work of salvation is finished.
There is nothing more to be done to offer salvation to us.
At the right hand of the Majesty on High
Jesus is exulted above all.

Jesus’ is superior to angels

If you want an example of the superiority of Jesus, look at the response to Jesus’ name.
