Today, we will dive deeper into Paul’s message to the Jews.
Believed that they deserved preferential treatment.
What false securities are tempted to rely on?
Wealth, inheritance, popularity, objects, people, etc?
The worst thing a person can do is misappropriate their securities.
We only have one life. Paul exposed 3 false securities of the Jews/Christians.

1. The False Security of Heritage (17a)

Jew - Term derived from Judah (12 tribes, southern kingdom)
After Babylon captivity, described entire nation descended from Abraham —> Isaac.
They wore the name proudly, not just religious but political.
Instead of receiving Jesus in faith, they killed him. Reflecting Satan
RMS Titanic, largest commercial liner, 3rd of the lifeboats, Captain Edward Smith said “God cannot sink this ship!”.
People assume that their life is secure because of where they are from and where they go. (No matter how they look)
Church, family, & country. (Without faith in Jesus, it’s a sinking ship)

2. The False Security of Knowledge (17b-24)

“Instructed” - Synagogue, catechism, as well as discipline and training.
Having the law, they failed to heed its commands. (They denounced those who did sin).
“Steal” - stole from offerings. Taught one thing and lived another.
“Transgressions” (parabaseos) “Mournfully numerous group of words”
Their bad example caused the other nations to curse God’s name.
Little league. The coach will determine the attitude of everyone.
What we know about God does not make us special.
We are called to come to Him in faith through Jesus Christ.

3. The False Security of Ceremony (25-29)

Circumcision - mark of God’s covenant with Abraham. (Jewish identity)
it proved that the Jews were not ignorant when they sinned. They know the requirements of God and they still sinned.
The intent was for an outward change to match the inward change.
Display the blessings, goodness, & protection. (Became a sign of disobedience.)
What are our children learning from our ceremonies? Baptism, Lord’s Supper, Offering, Invitation, Deacon’s ordination?
Our ceremonies reveal our heart fro God. Nothing is meant to be robotic.
They show our love or lack of understanding towards God.
Is there a false security that you are leaning on right now?
