Introduction: As we consider the theme of “Following the Light of the World,” what we are saying is that we want to be a disciple of Christ… Meaning, we want to ...

Identify with Christ

Believe His Doctrine

Act as He would act

Think as He would think

and, Have the attitude that He would have.

One Attitude that Christ had and that is laid out for us in this passage is the attitude of humility.

Vs.13-27

ฮีบรู 11:6 แต่ถ้าไม่มีความเชื่อแล้ว จะเป็นที่พอพระทัยของพระองค์ก็ไม่ได้เลย เพราะว่าผู้ที่จะมาหาพระเจ้าได้นั้นต้องเชื่อว่าพระองค์ทรงดำรงพระชนม์อยู่ และพระองค์ทรงเป็นผู้ประทานบำเหน็จให้แก่ทุกคนที่ปลงใจแสวงหาพระองค์

Vs. 13-16

Children are trusting - sometimes they trust the wrong person or belief system, but trusting the God Who created you is never the wrong choice!

Parents, don’t lie to your children - They will learn of your lies and not trust you.

If you lie to them and they don’t trust you, it becomes harder for them to trust God Whom they have not seen.

Vs. 17-27

This man wanted to be able to go to heaven without really trusting in Jesus ALONE.

What is it that you would not be willing to give up to follow Christ for salvation?

Is it the pursuit of money or things?

There is a principle here that must be remembered as we seek to lead lost people to Jesus: sinners cannot hang on to their sins and at the same time reach out to Jesus. There must be sincere repentance before sinners can turn to God and be saved by His grace. Warren Weirsbe

11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

13 I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession;

15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

Vs. 28-31

This is where the real question lies…What are we willing to give up to FOLLOW Christ?

Is there anything that we would not give up? That is our real god!!!

Luke 12:47-48

47 And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

If God gives you wealth and possessions, those are not for you…you’re a steward of what He has given you and we will give account before Him!

Vs. 35-45

On the one hand, why wouldn’t Jesus give them certain positions of authority? These are HIS disciples!

There should not be a question whether we know our position in our different roles - Employees & Bosses; Spouses; Parents & Children; Civic roles, etc.

When we have positions, we must fulfill those positions and the responsibility that comes with them - parents and children - police and criminals/คนร้าย

BUT, we do not seek out positions for the purpose of being the BOSS!

(Maybe) I did not come to Thailand to be the leader…I came to help someone else. Once we got there, we realized he did not want us there! THEN, what am I supposed to do? We finish language school and come here to start this church…not because I want to be the “boss.”

Vs. 46-52

What could a blind person do for Jesus? Nothing.

Jesus told Bart to “จงไปเถิด/go his way,” but Bart “ได้เดินทางตามพระเยซูไป/followed Jesus in the way” that Jesus was going, not his own way.

Jesus didn’t demand Bart follow Him, but Bart did it voluntarily...

Are we humbly following the Lord?

Salvation - Do you have childlike faith to receive Christ?

Possessions - Is Christ LORD of your things/money?

Positions - Do you seek to serve, or be served?

Practice - Are we humbly following the Lord, or must someone press you into it?
