(Communion) Lord Send Me Anywhere

"19th March, 1872. Birthday. Lord, send me anywhere, only go with me. Lay any burden on me, only sustain me. Sever any ties save the tie that binds me to Thy heart. My Jesus, my King, my life, my all, I again dedicate my whole self to Thee."

David Livingstone’s journal said this -

We are told in to take up communion as “remembrance of Christ”.

Luke 22:18–20 ESV

18 For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” 19 And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 20 And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.

But - what I want us to consider is whether >>>

Our remembrance should be in the ceremony alone?

But should our remembrance be in the ceremony alone?

If communion is meant to help us remember what Christ has done.

And we are truly trying to remember in grateful praise what Christ has done.

- That he died and gave his life for our sins…then what should a remembrance look like?

Luke 24:45-49

That he died and gave his life for our sins…then

I think it should include a worship and careful remembrance of Christ in communion,

but that worship should extend beyond the communion table.

One area that I think we should include is a seriousness about the great commission:

Luke 24:45–49 ESV

45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46 and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, 47 and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”

David Livingstone was a man who remembered what Christ had done for him - and it literally shaped his life.

- Let’s about not only what Christ has done … but how our lives reflect a remembrance of Christ.

- Let’s take a moment to remember Christ and reflect on what it means to remember Christ.

Bread

In the manner that Jesus called us to, We shall take up the bread. The bread represents the body of Jesus that was crucified on the cross. As we take up the bread may we examine our hearts and meditate on Christ’s crucifixion.

· Pray praising God for the crucifixion of Christ body.

In Remembrance of Christs bodily death for sins you may eat the bread.

Blood

In the manner that Jesus called us to, We shall take up the cups of juice. The juice represents the blood of Jesus spilled upon Calvary. This blood is the sign of the New Covenant by which we partake as believers. As we take up the juice may we mediate on the spilled blood of Jesus Christ?

In Remembrance of Christs spilled blood you may drink the cup of juice.
