Introduction

Text - ;
Galatians 1:6–9 NKJV
I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.
Galatians
Galatians 3:8–9 NKJV
And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, “In you all the nations shall be blessed.” So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham.
Title - No Other Gospel (Part 2)

Background

Paul argues against a different gospel
Paul declares there is no other gospel

My Main Point

The Gospel as we know it did not begin with the “four gospels” of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
The early beginnings of the gospel were the promises made by God even before the Law was introduced in Mount Sinai.

Sermon Points

The Gospel was already preached to Abraham

Galatians 3:8 NKJV
And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, “In you all the nations shall be blessed.”
Galatians 3.8
foresee - Grk. proorao, to see an event before it occurs
preach the gospel beforehand - Gr. proevangelizomai, to convey the gospel in advance
“in you all the nations shall be blessed”
- focus is on the “seed”
The gospel preceded the law by more than 400 years.
The gospel already included the Gentiles.
We were always part of God’s plan of redemption!

The earliest “form” of the gospel were the Promises of God

A promise is a verbal commitment by one person to another to do or to not do something.
God’s promises are the earliest form of the Gospel.

Characteristics of the Promises

The promise were “christocentric”.
e.g. the “seed”
The promise came by revelation of God.
e.g. God spoke to Abraham
The promise relates to the whole counsel of God.
e.g. the plan of redemption

Promises given before the Law was introduced

Genesis 3:15 NKJV
And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”
Jesus Christ was the “seed” of the woman
Jesus destroyed the root of sin on the cross, but it killed Him as well
Genesis 49:9–10 NKJV
Judah is a lion’s whelp; From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He bows down, he lies down as a lion; And as a lion, who shall rouse him? The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes; And to Him shall be the obedience of the people.
Shiloh means “he to whom it (the scepter) belongs”
Shiloh speaks of Jesus who was to be king over Israel and the whole kingdom of God

Promises given after the Law was introduced

Deuteronomy 18:15–19 NKJV
“The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear, according to all you desired of the Lord your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God, nor let me see this great fire anymore, lest I die.’ “And the Lord said to me: ‘What they have spoken is good. I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him.
Deuteronomy 18.15
Acts 3:22–24 NKJV
For Moses truly said to the fathers, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you. And it shall be that every soul who will not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’ Yes, and all the prophets, from Samuel and those who follow, as many as have spoken, have also foretold these days.
Acts 2.
Jesus was the promised “prophet” who will speak God’s Word in person
Numbers 24:15–19 NKJV
So he took up his oracle and said: “The utterance of Balaam the son of Beor, And the utterance of the man whose eyes are opened; The utterance of him who hears the words of God, And has the knowledge of the Most High, Who sees the vision of the Almighty, Who falls down, with eyes wide open: “I see Him, but not now; I behold Him, but not near; A Star shall come out of Jacob; A Scepter shall rise out of Israel, And batter the brow of Moab, And destroy all the sons of tumult. “And Edom shall be a possession; Seir also, his enemies, shall be a possession, While Israel does valiantly. Out of Jacob One shall have dominion, And destroy the remains of the city.”
Numbers 24.15—19
the Star that will come out of Jacob will also be the “Scepter” (Ruler)
2 Samuel 7:12–14 NKJV
“When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be his Father, and he shall be My son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the blows of the sons of men.
2 Samuel 7.12-
Solomon, who became king after David, was the prefiguration of the Son of David who:
sit in the throne of David in the millennium
will build the house of God - the church, the temple of the living God
will sit in the throne of David in the millennium
will be the Son of God

Conclusion

So what?
The gospel narrative began when God proclaimed His promises in order to show what He was going to do to redeem His people.
the preaching of the gospel was started by no other than God Himself, when He declared those promises to the fathers of faith.
We should rejoice in the truth that we, though Gentiles by birth, have always been part of God’s plan and intentions!
The promises of God belong to you!
- you are blessed with believing Abraham
The promises were to make us partakers of the divine nature
The promises are waiting for the heirs who will claim them.
Abraham obtained the promise -
The promises of God were given for the benefit of those who will receive Christ!
The Connection is the “Faith”
- if you have faith in Jesus Christ, you are blessed with Abraham the believer
You are partakers of the divine nature
