2 Peter 1:1–4 NLT
1 This letter is from Simon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ. I am writing to you who share the same precious faith we have. This faith was given to you because of the justice and fairness of Jesus Christ, our God and Savior. 2 May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord. 3 By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. 4 And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.
2 Peter 1:5 NLT
5 In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge,

How Do I Respond to God’s Promises?

2 Peter 1:5 YLT
5 And this same also—all diligence having brought in besides, superadd in your faith the worthiness, and in the worthiness the knowledge,

Superadd?

superadd

verbsu·per·add | \ ˌsü-pər-ˈad \superadded; superadding; superadds

Definition of superadd

transitive verb
: to add especially in a way that compounds an effect.
2 Peter 1:5–7 ESV
5 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, 7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.
Glass of Water Slide.
What happens if I add just a little more water? What happens if i add a good amount of water? What Happens if I add a whole bucket of water?
That is the choice the Lord is giving us. He is ready to pour all over someone. We can be the activator he wants to use.
Brotherly Affection
Brotherly Love
Brotherly Affection
Mercy
KINDNESS
Christians are supposed to be kind to one another. We are to be over kind.
Even more than that.
Romans 12:10 ESV
10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.
Fade in Outdo one another in showing honor.
Romans 12:10 The Message
10 Be good friends who love deeply; practice playing second fiddle.
Barclay translates this statement, “You must lead the way in honouring each other.” Complete Biblical Library Greek-English Dictionary, The - Pi-Rho.
Within the Church
Ephesians 4:32 ESV
32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
Kind (Strongs)
Root Word:
Kind
To furnish what is needed. Give an oracle Explain, Touch slightly, light up.
I am to study you. Looking for ways to bless you. It might be heavy. It might be light.
Glass of Water;
That is the choice the Lord is giving us. He is ready to pour all over someone. We can be the activator he wants to use.
David
2 Samuel 23:13–17 ESV
13 And three of the thirty chief men went down and came about harvest time to David at the cave of Adullam, when a band of Philistines was encamped in the Valley of Rephaim. 14 David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then at Bethlehem. 15 And David said longingly, “Oh, that someone would give me water to drink from the well of Bethlehem that is by the gate!” 16 Then the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate and carried and brought it to David. But he would not drink of it. He poured it out to the Lord 17 and said, “Far be it from me, O Lord, that I should do this. Shall I drink the blood of the men who went at the risk of their lives?” Therefore he would not drink it. These things the three mighty men did.
Vs 15 Is there a way to bless David? yes.....Is there a risk involved. Yes.

What is the Risk involved when we step out in kindness?

Is it worth it?
Ephesians 4:32 ESV
32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
Forgiving:
Luke 22:47–51 ESV
47 While he was still speaking, there came a crowd, and the man called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He drew near to Jesus to kiss him, 48 but Jesus said to him, “Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?” 49 And when those who were around him saw what would follow, they said, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?” 50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear. 51 But Jesus said, “No more of this!” And he touched his ear and healed him.
vs 48: Put yourself in the story; Why are Judas and the Crowd here? To capture Jesus.
What is our natural reaction when someone comes against us?
Vs 49-50 Attack our new found enemy.
vs 51. fade in. No more of this.
Jesus teaching;
Luke 6:27 ESV
27 “But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
enemies: someone in opposition to you.
Do Good.
Are there any exceptions?
Galatians 6:9–10 ESV
9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. 10 So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
Opportunity Fade in Do good to everyone Especially:
Does that mean we hand a twenty to everyone with a sign, standing on a corner? NO. If the Lord leads us to, we should. If He leads us to pray for them. We should. but there is never a place to be cruel to them. 24 times in the New Testament we are instructed to Do Good.

Heaven Has Employed Us as Full-Time

Do Gooders.

When I go to work. I am employed by Heaven as a Do Gooder.
I do my Job. That is my responsibility to BMW, but I am constantly looking for a way to be KIND.
Acts 10:38 ESV
38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.
Good
Matthew 5:44 NKJV
44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,
2 Peter 1:7 ESV
7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.
Avoiding someone on purpose is not the same as loving them. But there are some things we need to avoid.
The emphasis is definitely on a consciousness of responsibility within and for the Christian group. A proper sense of this responsibility requires avoidance of attitudes and practices that might destroy unity or bring the brotherhood into disrepute.

Offence Offence, wanting MY PLACE

The High Cost of Being Offended

Mark 2:1–2 ESV
1 And when he returned to Capernaum after some days, it was reported that he was at home. 2 And many were gathered together, so that there was no more room, not even at the door. And he was preaching the word to them.
Packed house, Jesus preaching, Look at the same story in Luke,
Luke 5:17 NKJV
17 Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them.
They had made the effort to walk or ride 90 Miles for some of them.
Jerusalem to Capernaum=90 miles.
They were there early enough to get a seat inside the house. The power of the Lord was present to heal
There is a full glass of the Holy Spirt’s power. Ready to overflow. Ready to heal.
Mark 2:3–4 NKJV
3 Then they came to Him, bringing a paralytic who was carried by four men. 4 And when they could not come near Him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where He was. So when they had broken through, they let down the bed on which the paralytic was lying.
What measure are they using to supperadd? Continue.
Mark 2:5 NKJV
5 When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.”
Mark 2:10–12 ESV
10 But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he said to the paralytic— 11 “I say to you, rise, pick up your bed, and go home.” 12 And he rose and immediately picked up his bed and went out before them all, so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!”
Big Splash. Big Splash. Dance, dance dance, jump jump jump.
Pause; It doesn’t stop there. Rewind
Luke 5:17 NKJV
17 Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them.
Fade in. THEM
THEM! How many got healed? Just one. Is one a them? No, one is a one. Why just one? Is the glass of His power empty?
Look at the missing verses. Continue in the story.
Mark 2:5–7 ESV
5 And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” 6 Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts, 7 “Why does this man speak like that? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
Good teaching Jesus. Good healing. But on this one point, I think you are wrong.
No more miracles, Heaven shuts down. They were offended.
•Camp-meeting. I was hurt. I was mad. I had scripture. You are getting ready to lose everything I sent you here for. •The next year. It was worse. Everyone needs to write a check for double what you have already put in. I didn’t have double what I had put in. That can’t be God. Hold on to the good. Spit out the bad. •Next Year. Midas Touch. ( I knew I was right.) •A deposit from the Lord. ( We can all be right in our heart and wrong in our theology.) Don’t shut God down.

Jesus Visits The Local Healing and Miracle Center

We Are about to become a Local Healing and Miracle Center, If......
John 5:1–3 ESV
1 After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 2 Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, in Aramaic called Bethesda, which has five roofed colonnades. 3 In these lay a multitude of invalids—blind, lame, and paralyzed.
Bethesda: House of Kindness.
Multitude: A large number.
John 5:4 NKJV
4 For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had.
2 THINGS.
1)It only happened at a certain time. (Highlight)
2)The only one healed, was the first one in. (Highlight) Good to be him, but what about everyone else?
They are at the House of Kindness: The Glass is full of the Holy Spirit Power. Ready for a big splash.
John 5:5–7 ESV
5 One man was there who had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be healed?” 7 The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, and while I am going another steps down before me.”
Vs. 5 - 6 One Man Jesus shows up.
Vs 7 There is no one there to Supperadd Brotherly Kindness. No one to help him into the power. He can’t do it on his own.
John 5:8–9 ESV
8 Jesus said to him, “Get up, take up your bed, and walk.” 9 And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked. Now that day was the Sabbath.
John 5: 9 B (HATISHH)
And suddenly everyone turned and recognized Jesus was busy healing. A line was formed of everyone wanting to be healed. It took all day, but everyone was made whole. Jesus had won once again. Shortly after that the pool of Bethesda was turned into a skating rink for the local children.
Bless God. Pastor Allen. That’s not what it says. No one else gets healed. Jesus is no where to be found. There were still multitudes of folks laying around, hurting, sick and diseased. It was no different from the angel stirring the water & one getting healed. Did Jesus miss it? He was sent to one man. Did God only want to heal one? Sorry everyone else. Not your day.
Jesus went were he was supposed to be. He did what he was supposed to do. But anyone there could have grabbed their healing by faith.
What happened?
John 5:9–10 ESV
9 And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked. Now that day was the Sabbath. 10 So the Jews said to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath, and it is not lawful for you to take up your bed.”
They got offended. It’s not the right time for doing miracles. It shut down anything else, the Lord wanted to do.
Pastor Allen, we don’t get offended when God does something, do we?
What if someone else gets something you are believing for first?
Apostle Whiteside: Urgency to get there. (rough time) Believing God for some answers. Based on earlier experience, we trusted Apostle Whiteside. Word for Jennifer. Good Word. Very good word. Word for Michael: Good Word. Very Good Word. Word for Pastor. Good Word. Very good word. I’m next. I know I’m next. It only makes sense. I need to hear from the Lord. And then nothing. He started to teach. Time to make a decision. Get offended and shut down, or be happy for Michael & Pastor. I chose to celebrate. Keep the door open. When he began to teach, it was exactly what I had taught the previous Wed. Night. Not just close. Same scriptures, same terminology. Same side journeys. It was like he stole my notes. It meant more to me than a 1 hour prophesy would have. It wasn’t about where I was going. It was about where I was right now. ( Pray for Apostle Whiteside. )

How do we keep from becoming offended?

Romans 12:15–18 ESV
15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. 17 Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.
