We have been going through a series about Understanding Prophecy.
My goal through the series has been to help us understand key concepts which will help when looking at what the Bible says about future events.
If we understand these concepts, it will help us to properly understand and apply what God reveals about things yet to come.
We started our study by first examining what prophecy is.
Prophecy is a message from God meant to edify, comfort, encourage, or exhort.
We saw that all of scripture is God’s message to us.
All of scripture is God’s apocalyptic literature.
Remember, apocalyptic means revealed.
It does not just refer to destruction at the end of time.
We interpret all prophecy in the normal sense.
From there, we looked at interpretation.
The way to interpret scripture is to read it for what it says, and look for the meaning that was communicated to the original audience.
When we look at all God has said about future events which have already occured, we see that God did what He said, literally.
Therefore, we should expect the same to hold true for those things which are still to be fulfilled.
An example of this is in Daniel 2.

Today we are concluding this series.
The title today is from Daniel 2, when God revealed the meaning behind the dream that He gave to Nebuchadnezzar.
God reveals mysteries.
He reveals what is unknown to us, as all the future is.
The future is a mystery to us, but not to God.
He is sovereign over all, and He is working out His purpose to redeem people to Himself, and to take them into His eternal kingdom on the New Earth where there will be no more sorrow, sin or suffering.
Why does God reveal the mysteries of the future?
He wants us to understand.
He wants us to know and understand.
Since that is the case, we should not think that God has given revelation that is beyond our comprehension.
We should not think that what God has revealed is something only the truly religious, or some religious leader or organization can figure out.
We need to simply read it for what God says, and take him at His word.
That is what Daniel did.
Today, as we wrap up Understanding Bible Prophecy, we are looking at Daniel 9, where God gives an overview of what He is going to do with Israel.
We will begin reading in Daniel 9:1.
