Intro
Good morning all. For those who don’t know me, my name is Sunil and I am a student minister at Wesley Mission for this year.
I am so glad to share a short message with you today. You may listen to this passage many times, but we might easy to forget to apply to our individual lives for our faith journey with Christ. So I would like to remind you including myself to ponder about how we live out to fulfil God’s will in our daily life.
So I would like to remind you and myself how we are able to live out to fulfil God’s will in our lives.

When we arrived there, we discovered a special activity that from January til March there was a pathway to the ocean for the baby turtles as they began their dangerous journey into ocean. We didn’t plan the activity but we were lucky to see the hatched baby turtles which they were heading to the ocean.
That was one of my highlights in the road trip. From January til March there is a pathway to the ocean for the baby turtles as they begin their dangerous journey into ocean. The guide with us shared the information about the sea-turtle that once they came out from their eggs they follow the light straight away. That is like an instinct for them. That’s why they usually wait and depart from their hatchling place when the sun rise which is early in the morning.

That was one of my highlights in the road trip. One of guides who shared the information about the turtles that once the baby turtle came out from their eggs they instantly follow any light around them as they came out in the darkness. So usually they came out from eggs in late night so they just wait and leave from their hatchling place when the sun rise which is early in the morning.
However, the problem is because as the place are getting famous for tourist, there are so many artificial lights around the place for people’s entertainment such as hotels, pubs, food stores, etc. That makes baby turtle confuse and ends up died by car or exhaustion of roaming in the human places.
However, the problem is because as the place are getting famous for tourist, there are so many artificial lights around the place in 24hours for people’s entertainment such as hotels, pubs, food stores, etc. That makes baby turtle confuse and leads them to a danger and often die by car or other animals and exhaustion of roaming around the human places.
So in order to prevent their confusion and save the baby turtle’s life, the centre opened with a team and experts to save the baby turtle’s lives with indicating with lantern to make them safely journey to the ocean.
So in order to prevent their confusion and save the baby turtle’s life, there is a centre near from the beach to save the baby turtle’s lives with indicating with lantern to make them safely journey to the ocean.
Having discovered the baby turtle’s journey towards ocean from hatchling, I see that in our spiritual journey is in the same way that the baby turtle was heading to their new journey with light. We sometimes follow artificial lights such as greed for human success without loving other.
Having discovered the baby turtle’s journey towards ocean from hatchling place, I realised that in our spiritual journey is in the same way as we are in the midst of journeying with Christ into eternal life.
We need to fix our eyes and thoughts on the marvellous light which is Jesus Christ, so that we are on the right way towards God’s presence.
that the baby turtle was heading to their new journey with the light.
Because we sometimes follow artificial lights such as our greed for success without knowing God’s will and caring and loving others as Jesus gave us a new covenant. So we need to fix our eyes to the lights which is in Christ Jesus and thoughts to the will of God which we read the passage today so that we are on the right way towards God’s presence.

So we need to fix our eyes to the lights which is in Christ Jesus and thoughts to the will of God which we read the passage today so that we are on the right way towards God’s presence.
And also, I believe in our role is to be a guide for those who are struggling to find their way to God. We need to show people who are in darkness with the true light of the world which is Christ Jesus with the gospel.
As you can see the guide in the photo who are leading the lost baby turtles to the ocean, I believe that our God called us to lead people who are in darkness to the steadfast and unchangeable of God’s love.
And also, I believe in our role is to be a guide for those who are struggling to find their way to God. We need to show people who are in darkness with the true light of the world which is Christ Jesus with the gospel.
God is called the “rock of salvation” And like living stones extends the ‘stone’ imagery in a remarkable way to Peter’s readers, now portraying not only Christ but also Christians as ‘stones’ that live. God has chosen us from darkness to the light to be a living stone with the marvellous light which is Christ’s.
우리가 기뻐하고 즐거워 하고 감사해야 하는 이유는 우리를 어둠 가운데서 빛으로 부르셨고 계속해서 인도해주시기 때문이다.

5:16. Paul admonished, Be joyful always. This is short and to the point. The key, however, is the word always. Paul meant this literally. Christian joy is not bound by circumstances or hindered by difficulties. In fact, joy in the New Testament is often coupled with sorrow or suffering.

The Thessalonian believers had already experienced this strange duet, like an inspiring song played in minor key (1 Thess. 1:6). When the sorrow or suffering results from being identified with Christ, the Holy Spirit creates a supernatural joy—a wellness of soul that cannot be dampened by adverse situations. The explanation may be found in 2 Corinthians 4:16–18: “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.”

But we should remember that we have a part in this joy. We are the ones commanded to be joyful. It is a choice, a deliberate response that focuses on the grace and goodness of God. As the writer to the Hebrews directed us, “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart” (Heb. 12:2–3).

Apostle Paul admonishes that be joyful always. Paul meant this literally. Christian joy is not bound by circumstances or hindered by difficulties. We could find the joy in the New Testament as well as in the Old Testament is often coupled with sorrow or suffering. As early Christians were faced in hardship to keep on going with their faith journey.
In the context of the passage, Thessalonian believers had already experienced the hardship in suffering, like an inspiring song played in minor key.

1 Thessalonians 1:6 ESV
And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit,
When the sorrow or suffering results from being identified with Christ, the Holy Spirit creates a supernatural joy. The explanation may be found in
2 Corinthians
2 Corinthians 4:16–18 ESV
So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18
2 Corinthians 4:16–18 NIV
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

But we should remember that we have a part in this joy. We are the ones commanded to be joyful. It is a choice, a deliberate response that focuses on the grace and goodness of God.

I have been to road trip from Cairns to Sydney in Feb this year. I spent almost for two weeks with camper-van with my wife. On the way back to Sydney, we visited to Bundaberg, we were originally to just visit there to taste authentic ginger beer as my favorite drinks in Australia. Because Bundaberg is where the ginger beer originally came from.
When we arrived there, we discovered a special activity at Mon Repos Turtle centre near from beach that from January til March there was a pathway to the ocean for the baby turtles as they begin their dangerous journey into ocean. Though we heard from guide that they are not 100% sure to find a hatchling place at the beach as the activity runs at late night, we were lucky to find a hatchling place and also watched their journey to the ocean.
That was one of my highlights in the road trip. One of guides shared the information about the turtles that once the baby turtle came out from their eggs they instantly follow any light around them as they came out in the darkness. So in order to prevent their confusion and save their lives, there is a centre near from the beach to guide them with lantern to safely journey to the ocean.
Having discovered that, I realised that our spiritual journey is in the same way as we are in the midst of journeying with Christ into eternal life.
Because we sometimes follow artificial lights such as our human greed for success without knowing God’s will and not caring and loving others as Jesus gave us a new covenant. That artificial lights leads us into darkness without noticing God’s will.
So we need to fix our eyes to the real light which is in Christ Jesus and thoughts to the will of God which we read the passage today so that we are on the right way towards the place where God’s presence is.
As the writer to the Hebrews directed us,
Hebrews 12:2–3 NIV
fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

“Let us fix our hearts on God’s will,
This is the reason why we are joyful and thankful towards God as we are drown by God from the darkness to the eternal light.
And pray continually means literally never stop praying. Paul was a busy missionary at that time, and he wrote about the Christian’s duty to fulfil daily responsibilities, so this is not a command about speaking non-stop prayers. The Christian’s life of righteousness and his approach to relationships and responsibilities should be such that he maintains a constant attitude of being in God’s presence. Such a person will pray often and about many things, including requests, praise, and thanksgiving. This command also means that we should never quit praying.

5:17. The next staccato note follows: pray continually. This means never stop praying. Paul was a busy missionary, and he wrote about the Christian’s duty to fulfill daily responsibilities, so this is not a command about speaking non-stop prayers. It refers, however, to the attitude of prayer, or reverence before God. The Christian’s life of righteousness and his approach to relationships and responsibilities should be such that he maintains a constant attitude of being in God’s presence. Such a person will pray often and about many things, including requests, praise, and thanksgiving. This command also means that we should never quit praying.

And he express so many times in his letters we are in a race for final goal towards God’s presence.
If we don’t pray, that means we are not relying on God in the race rather we are relying on ourselves. Without constant praying, we can’t finish our journey in a right way.

5:18. The next command requires trust in the sovereignty of Christ: give thanks in all circumstances. It recognizes God’s eminence in all events.

A thankful spirit does not come naturally to most of us. Certainly it pushes us beyond our natural capacities when difficult or painful situations invade our life. This command to be thankful, no matter what happens, is possible only by God’s grace. When we can agree with God that he works all things out for good to those who love him and are committed to obedience (Rom. 8:28), then we can thank him.

For those who wonder about God’s will, here it is emphatically stated: this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. There is no need for searching, seminars, books, or “fleeces.” God’s will is that we are to be joyful, prayerful, and thankful because we are his children.

기도하지 않는 다는 것은 하나님을 의지하지 않는 것이다. 자기의 힘과 능력으로 살아가면 분명없이 한계가 있다. 그래서 하나님께서는 하나님의 뜻을 기도하는 곳에 두셨다.
Last command requires trust in the sovereignty of Christ: give thanks in all circumstances. It recognises God’s reverence in all events.

God’s will is that we are to be joyful, prayerful and thankful because we are God’s children as well as an instrument of God’s will!

When we deeply thought about the gospel and its grace and sacrificial love, how we could not give thanks and be joyful to God with pryaer. Before we do any other works for God’s glory we need to fix our eyes and thoughts on the will of God so that we could remain in God’s ultimate will in the midst of our journey with Christ.
As you can see the guide in the photo who are leading the lost baby turtles to the ocean, I believe that God is leading us with His light at the same time God has called us to be a guide for those who are struggling to find their way to the true light Jesus Christ with the gospel. Having reminded of the God’s will in Christ Jesus, I humbly encourage you and me to fix our eyes and thoughts on God’s will which we need to be joyful, prayerful and thankful in any circumstances so that the light of the world continually leads us into God’s presence. I hope we could walk with God and share the light in our everyday life.
