A Wise Marriage

1. The home is the foundational institution for establishing God’s Kingdom on earth.

NAU Proverbs 18:22 He who finds a wife finds a good thing And obtains favor  (A GRACE GIFT) from the LORD.

  • No place for ball and chain jokes in the church family. A cherished relationship that is a gift from God. (Recognizing that there are those relationships whose preservation is a greater ‘crime’ than their dissolution).

2. A wise spouse will praise his or her partner.

NAU Proverbs 31:28 Her children rise up and bless her; Her husband also, and he praises her, saying: 29 "Many daughters have done nobly, But you excel them all."

Nothing destroys a marriage faster than a sense of disapproval. – driving, looks, discipline… etc.

3. A wise spouse will love their spouse.

NAU Proverbs 30:21 Under three things the earth quakes, And under four, it cannot bear up: 22 Under a slave when he becomes king, And a fool when he is satisfied with food, 23 Under an unloved woman when she gets a husband, And a maidservant when she supplants her mistress.

  • Some things are unbearable, failure to love in a marriage is one of the unbearable things.

4. A wise spouse is ravished by your loving spouses embrace.

NAU Proverbs 5:18 Let your fountain be blessed, And rejoice in the wife of your youth. 19 As a loving hind and a graceful doe, Let her breasts satisfy you at all times; Be exhilarated always with her love.

5. A wise spouse makes their spouse part of the core of their fun (pleasure/joy)

NAU Ecclesiastes 9:7 Go then, eat your bread in happiness and drink your wine with a cheerful heart; for God has already approved your works. 8 Let your clothes be white all the time, and let not oil be lacking on your head. 9 Enjoy life with the woman whom you love all the days of your fleeting life which He has given to you under the sun; for this is your reward in life and in your toil in which you have labored under the sun. 10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might; for there is no activity or planning or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol where you are going.
