To determine where I am going I must ask...

I) Where am I Looking? (vs 1-2)

Isaiah 51:1 KJV 1900
Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek the Lord: Look unto the rock whence ye are hewn, And to the hole of the pit whence ye are digged.
Where am I going?

Looking Godward

Look Forward- What is right to do
Look Up- What are God’s Desires and Wants, What is God doing?
Look Back- Back at where God has taken you from and what He has done

Look unto Abraham your father, And unto Sarah that bare you: For I called him alone, And blessed him, and increased him.

II) What am I waiting for? (Vs 3-5)

And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem, and men of Judah, Judge, I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyard.

For the Lord shall comfort Zion: He will comfort all her waste places; And he will make her wilderness like Eden, And her desert like the garden of the Lord; Joy and gladness shall be found therein, Thanksgiving, and the voice of melody.

Waiting for the Lord’s Return

Waiting for his joy and gladness
Giving thanks and Praise while waiting

Waiting for the Lord’s Direction

Waiting on the Lord’s Deliverance

Seeking the salvation and deliverance of God
Waiting on his vengeance and judgment
Waiting on God to provide for needs
To determine where I am going I must ask...

What am I waiting for...

III) What am I afraid of? (vs 6-8)

Lift up your eyes to the heavens, And look upon the earth beneath: For the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, And the earth shall wax old like a garment, And they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: But my salvation shall be for ever, And my righteousness shall not be abolished.

Fear of Material Loss

The Spiritual is the Eternal

Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, The people in whose heart is my law; Fear ye not the reproach of men, Neither be ye afraid of their revilings.

IV) Who Am I Turning to? (vs 9-12a)

Isaiah 51:9 KJV 1900
Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the Lord; Awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. Art thou not it that hath cut Rahab, and wounded the dragon?
The Lord of Past Victories

Art thou not it which hath dried the sea, the waters of the great deep; That hath made the depths of the sea a way for the ransomed to pass over?

The Lord of the Impossible

Who do I turn to with problems, frustrations, dilemmas

Isaiah 51:11 KJV 1900
Therefore the redeemed of the Lord shall return, And come with singing unto Zion; And everlasting joy shall be upon their head: They shall obtain gladness and joy; And sorrow and mourning shall flee away.

The Lord immutable

The Lord immutable

We move away from Him and so we must return
The Lord worthy of Praise
The Lord giver of Joy
The Lord our Comforter
Who do I turn to for joy
Who do I turn to for comfort

Ask yourself these questions

Where am I looking?

Do I look to God
Do I look to Godly examples?

What am I waiting for?

Do I wait for God to Guide me?
Do I wait for God to Supply my desire or need?

What am I afraid of?

Do I fear material loss?
Do I fear man?

Who am I turning to?

The Lord of the impossible
The Lord Immutable
for my joy, gladness and comfort?
