FAKE SOCIAL MEDIA:
Girl that “went hiking” and the sister that called her out
As funny as this is, social media has warped how we view our own lives
“We compare our behind the scenes to someone else’s highlight reel.”
The Problem: we are then comparing our true lives with the false image of someone else’s
Tonight’s Topic: True & Free
We are talking about truth and establishing truth as a habit in our lives.

1. TRUTH ISN’T SOMETHING, IT IS SOMEONE

Jesus is Truth

John 14:6 ESV
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Jesus fulfills hundreds of prophecies!
Imagine filling the State of Texas two-feet deep with silver dollars and sending in someone blindfolded to find one marked coin.
The chances of that person finding the correct coin mirror the chances of Jesus fulfilling just eight of the hundreds of prophesies that fill the Bible.
The chances of someone just fulfilling eight is intense, and yet Jesus fulfilled hundreds of prophecies made 400+ years before he was on Earth.
That alone can be proof that Jesus is truth!
John 1:17 ESV
17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

The Spirit of Truth

Matthew 16:15–17 ESV
15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 16:15–16 ESV
15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
God revealed to Peter that Jesus was Truth
The Holy Spirit will speak to us what He hears from God the Father
John 14:16 ESV
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever,
John 14:16–17 ESV
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.
John 16:13 ESV
13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.

2. TRUTH IS SPIRITUAL

True Worship Happens in Spirit and Truth

John 4:23–24 ESV
23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
To worship in truth means that you are worshiping according to the whole counsel of God’s Word.
When you worship (loving, serving, giving) God you are worshiping Him through your understanding of His Word
As I read God’s word, I can’t help but worship Him

Antichrist Opposes Truth

1 John 4:2–3 ESV
2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already.
Antichrist is simply anything that is against Christ
Therefore, if Jesus is truth, we understand that anything against Jesus is not truth
1 John 2:22–23 ESV
22 Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son. 23 No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also.
Low Quality Friendships
lower the opinion of your friends that aren’t following Jesus
stop valuing the opinion of someone that doesn’t know the truth!
Who cares if they don’t like your social media post?
Who cares when your friend makes fun of you for saying no to partying
Who cares about the comments made to you by someone that doesn’t know the truth
Manage Your Expectations
If you know someone doesn’t know the truth, then don’t expect truth to come out of their mouth
Movie Talk
Can’t talk about a movie with someone that hasn’t seen it!
God’s anointing will help you see the truth
1 John 2:26-
God’s anointing will help you see the truth
1 John 2:26–27 ESV
26 I write these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you. 27 But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him.
when you’ve been spending time in God’s Word you recognize truth
God’s anointing simply means you are set apart, marked for God
The spirit of antichrist doesn’t want God’s truth
2 Timothy 4:3–4 ESV
3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, 4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.
Truth is not necessarily “what works
Truth is not “what feels good
Truth is not “what is popular
We are living in a day where people want to believe whatever they want to believe!
Fake News: Thailand Combat Force
People will justify the lies in their life, if it benefits them.

3. TRUTH BRINGS PEACE TO FEAR & ANXIETY

Philippians 4:8–9 ESV
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
Practice these things and the God of peace will be with you
The God of Peace will be with you
Not only will you have the peace of God, but also God Himself will help you
2 Corinthians 10:5
2 Corinthians 10:5 ESV
5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,
In order to overcome fear & anxiety, you have to take captive the things that are not true, and meditate on things that are true!

4. HOW TO KNOW TRUTH

Read Your Bible

John 8:31-32
John 8:31–32 ESV
31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
truth doesn’t come from academic knowledge and understanding, but simply by remaining in God’s Word

Work Out Your Salvation

What do you believe is true?
Philippians 2:12–13 ESV
12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
Work Out means to ACTIVATE your salvation!
Have you activated your salvation?

Finances
Fear & Trembling doesn’t mean we should be scared when activating our salvation.
Healthy fear says I’m more scared of life without God than I am of life with God

CONCLUSION

The spirit of antichrist is running wild in our world.
Unless we dig into God’s Word daily and make this a habit, we will fall to lies
stop worrying what others think about you, and start caring what God thinks about you
True freedom comes into our lives when we stop believing the lies. Lies tripped Adam and Eve, and we (as humans) have been believing the lies since then.

Huddle Questions:

1 John 4:2–3 ESV
2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already.
The spirit of antichrist is anything that opposes Jesus. Since Jesus is truth, anything that opposes Jesus is not true.
What areas of life can we get trapped in because we believe something that isn’t true?
Do you fall into the trap of comparing other’s highlight reels to your behind the scenes?
John 14:6 ESV
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Jesus says that, he “is the way, truth, and life.” Do you find that when you don’t have a consistent relationship with Jesus that you are tempted by false truths?
