Matthew 8:18–27 (NKJV) Demands of Discipleship Luke 9:57–62 18 And when Jesus saw great multitudes about Him, He gave a command to depart to the other side. 19 rThen a certain scribe came and said to Him, “Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go.” 20 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” 21 sThen another of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, tlet me first go and bury my father.” 22 But Jesus said to him, “Follow Me, and let the dead bury their own dead.” The Sea is Stilled Mark 4:35–41; Luke 8:22–25 23 Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. 24 uAnd suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. 25 Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” 26 But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then vHe arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27 So the men marveled, saying, 2“Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”1 Matthew 14:22–31 (NKJV) Jesus Walks on Water Mark 6:45–52; John 6:14–21 22 Immediately Jesus 1made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. 23 iAnd when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. jNow when evening came, He was alone there. 24 But the boat was now 2in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary. 25 Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. 26 And when the disciples saw Him kwalking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear. 27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, 3“Be of good lcheer! 4It is I; do not be afraid.” 28 And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” 29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw 5that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” 31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of mlittle faith, why did you doubt?” 2 Mark 4:1–9 (NKJV) Parable of the Soils Matt. 13:1–23; Luke 8:4–15 4 And aagain He began to teach by the sea. And a great multitude was gathered to Him, so that He got into a boat and sat in it on the sea; and the whole multitude was on the land facing the sea. 2 Then He taught them many things by parables, band said to them in His teaching: 3 “Listen! Behold, a sower went out to sow. 4 And it happened, as he sowed, that some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds 1of the air came and devoured it. 5 Some fell on stony ground, where it did not have much earth; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of earth. 6 But when the sun was up it was scorched, and because it had no root it withered away. 7 And some seed fell among thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no 2crop. 8 But other seed fell on good ground and yielded a crop that sprang up, increased and produced: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.” 9 And He said 3to them, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”3 Mark 4:13–17 (NKJV) 13 And He said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables? 14 gThe sower sows the word. 15 And these are the ones by the wayside where the word is sown. When they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts. 16 These likewise are the ones sown on stony ground who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with gladness; 17 and they have no root in themselves, and so endure only for a time. Afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word’s sake, immediately they stumble. 4 Matthew 14:32–33 (NKJV) 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. 33 Then those who were in the boat 6came and worshiped Him, saying, “Truly nYou are the Son of God.”5 John 6:14–15 (NKJV) 14 Then those men, when they had seen the sign that Jesus did, said, “This is truly jthe Prophet who is to come into the world.” Christ Walks on the Water Matt. 14:22–33; Mark 6:45–52 15 Therefore when Jesus perceived that they were about to come and take Him by force to make Him kking, He departed again to the mountain by Himself alone.6 Matthew 14:27 (NKJV) 27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, 3“Be of good lcheer! 4It is I; do not be afraid.”7 Exodus 3:10–14 (NKJV) 10 uCome now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.” 11 But Moses said to God, v“Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” 12 So He said, w“I will certainly be with you. And this shall be a xsign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.” 13 Then Moses said to God, “Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they say to me, ‘What is His name?’ what shall I say to them?” 14 And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, y‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ” 8
