Title: Harvesting Purpose!

And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband’s, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and his name was ||Boaz. 2 And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said unto her, Go, my daughter. 3 And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers: and her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech

explains the kinsman redeemer
Boaz was a type of Christ - What Boaz was to Ruth, Jesus is to us
Mighty man of wealth
Economic
Social
He would call Ruth a woman of virtue
Related to Elimelech
Both Boaz and Ruth were people of integrity and character and well suited for each other.
Verse 3 she would glean/harvest after the harvesters.
We have no real reference for this today.

And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not wholly reap the corners of thy field, neither shalt thou gather the gleanings of thy harvest. 10 And thou shalt not glean thy vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every grape of thy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the

Leviticus 19:9–10 KJV 1900
9 And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not wholly reap the corners of thy field, neither shalt thou gather the gleanings of thy harvest. 10 And thou shalt not glean thy vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every grape of thy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and stranger: I am the Lord your God.
Poor = poor
Stranger = foreigner or immigrant
So the corners would be left standing and the poor would come and harvest what was left - this is where Ruth finds herself.
It says that by chance she ended up in Boaz’s field...

By circumstance, happenstance or by chance
It was as though she wondered into his field by the “luck of the draw”.
And all she wanted was what was promised to her as a poor woman, widow and stranger.
But God had something else in store!
Ruth’s whole purpose for that day was to get enough food to feed herself and MIL.
Just to get the bare minimums...
But God had a plan!
#ItIsPossible!
There is no circumstance with God!
Man’s happenstance is God’s providence!
Verse 4 - Common greeting that will sound familiar to today...
God be with you - God strengthen you to accomplish a lot of work today!
God bless you - God give you the ability to provide more work to feed our families
When we leave our loved ones of an morning…
Not just a good bye - speak into them blessing and protection and favor!
Verse 5 - Who is that girl!
Verse 6-7 - Naomi’s Moabitish girl
And she has asked the harvest among the harvesters.
If the harvester dropped something, the poor could be allowed to harvest it. It was considered to be generous…
So she was given permission to move from the corners, to picking up what the harvesters have left behind...
Boaz gives her special protection and an invitation to the Master’s resources!
Whatever you need, here it is!
Verse 11-12
Verse 11-12:
Ruth 2:11–12 KJV 1900
11 And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been shewed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband: and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not heretofore. 12 The Lord recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust.
Kindness begets kindness
Kindness brings a blessing!
...under whose wings thou art come to trust.
Not just a saying!
Wings represent Spiritual Covering!
Exodus 19:4 KJV 1900
4 Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself.
Ex
Psalm 17:8 KJV 1900
8 Keep me as the apple of the eye, Hide me under the shadow of thy wings,
Ps
Psalm 36:7 KJV 1900
7 How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.
ps
Psalm 61:4 KJV 1900
4 I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.
Psalm 91:4 KJV 1900
4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, And under his wings shalt thou trust: His truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
ps
We see this again in Chapter 3...
Boaz was her protector and strength!
Everyone new that to mess with Ruth was to mess with Boaz!
She was under His protection!
Verse 14 - When she comes under his authority, she now has an invitation to sit at his table!
Verse 15 - Let her back out among the harvesters… But intentionally throw grain on the ground for her!
Verse 15 - Let her back out among the harvesters… But intentionally throw grain on the ground for her!
HANDFULS OF PURPOSE!
Verse 17 - she harvests one ephah of barley
The Mosaic Law said, harvest the corners...
Work a day and eat for a day.
EPHAH: 1-2 WEEKS OF FOOD!
God is telling the church - My purpose is not just to help you get by… It’s to take you into the blessing of abundance!
Start with corners...
Move to handfuls...
Then Handfuls on purpose...
THEN - I’m taking care of you into the future!
Ruth will teach us how to live in the overflow, the abundance before it’s all over with!
Wrapping up the chapter: Naomi tells her to stay… that Boaz is the family redeemer.
The gentile is about to be redeemed into the Hebrew race...
Did this through the barley and wheat harvest.
Feast of Weeks or Feast of Pentecost -
Letting us know that there would be another Feast of Pentecost coming that all Gentile people would be brought into the Household of the Faithful!
