So many times God's leading in our lives takes us to uncharted territories. This can cause fear of the unknown as we have not gone this way before. What is unknown to us is known to God. As He leads into the uncharted terrritories we must learn to trust and follow because the promised land waits on the other side.

Introduction: (Defining the Pain)
There comes a time in everyones life that you are asked or even required to do things you never done before. Some is saying, “you can do it.” I believe in you.
Makes me think of a baby the first time the are going to take a step.
And then that scenario plays out a 1000 times.
But each time the leap is a little longer, the stakes are a little higher, and the fear is a little greater.
Someone asks you to marry them.
There is an opportunity to that big promotion at work.
You find out your pregnant.
God is asking you to trust and obey.
It’s all Uncharted Territory. Ways you’ve never gone down before.
It’s a scary thing to step out into the unknown. There will be new trials, new tribulations, new battles, new victories.
And every time It takes courage to travel the uncharted territory of your life.

Dangers of uncharted territory

Getting lost or losing your way.
Leading in the wrong direction.
Unseen Hazards along the way (twists, turns, cliffs, and curves)
The possibility of failure or defeat
So what do we do to bring light into the darkness of the unknown?
How do we shine a light on the path God has laid out before us.
Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorganson mapped out The Dawn wall before they free-climbed it.
This was the situation the children of Israel found themselves in.
lays out the step by step process that God gave to Israel as they started their journey into uncharted territory.
Bible Lesson (Defining the Passage)

4 Steps of Courage on the Uncharted Path.

1. Put the Lord out in Front.

Joshua 3:1 ESV
1 Then Joshua rose early in the morning and they set out from Shittim. And they came to the Jordan, he and all the people of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over.
Joshua 3:1

Leader Lesson One:

Leadership lesson one: Leaders rises early to walk with the Lord so the people have something to follow.
If you don’t know where you’re going get out of the drivers seat.
The Lord is the guide into uncharted territory. Jesus described the religious leaders of his day as blind guides.
Matthew 15:14 ESV
14 Let them alone; they are blind guides. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.”
Matthew 15:14
Joshua 3:2–3 ESV
2 At the end of three days the officers went through the camp 3 and commanded the people, “As soon as you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God being carried by the Levitical priests, then you shall set out from your place and follow it.

Get Behind the Lord

Joshua 3:2–3 ESV
2 At the end of three days the officers went through the camp 3 and commanded the people, “As soon as you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God being carried by the Levitical priests, then you shall set out from your place and follow it.
The Lord never asked you to lead where you have not gone. The Lord’s command is always “Follow.”
2 Spiritual Guides into Uncharted Territory.
The Lord guides us by His Word. The Bible is a reliable and up to date road map.
The Bible is a reliable and up to date road map.
Psalm 119:105 ESV
105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Ps 105:11
The Holy Spirit guides us into all truth.
Joshua 3:4 ESV
4 Yet there shall be a distance between you and it, about 2,000 cubits in length. Do not come near it, in order that you may know the way you shall go, for you have not passed this way before.”
Josh
They were to follow from a distance of 1000 yards.
Watch the movement of the Lord and then follow. Takes all the guessing out of it.
Many follow anticipating the next move. If your not careful you get juked.
God is not taking you on a new path, it’s just new to you.
Me playing cornerback.
“Your present pathway is new to you, but it is not new to your God.”
C.H. Spurgeon. June 23, 1872
Put God out front.

As crazy as they might sound they might just save your life.

2. Prepare yourself.

Preparation is Consecration:
Consecrate: to set apart or dedicate to the service of a deity.
“The chicken is committed to breakfast, but the pig is consecrated.”
Walking in uncharted territory takes full commitment.
Walking in uncharted territory takes full commitment.
“The chicken is committed to breakfast, but the pig is consecrated.”
Joshua 3:5 ESV
5 Then Joshua said to the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.”
Live in anticipation of the might works of God in and through your life.
God leads out with power and wonders to take you down the path.
When you take the risk and follow the Lord you are rewarded with the wonders of the Lord.
Leader Lesson Two:
The Lord never takes you where He doesn’t provide for you.
Joshua 3:7 ESV
7 The Lord said to Joshua, “Today I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with you.
Joshua 3:
As the Lord exalts you, make sure He gets all the glory.

3. Follow the Instructions.

Joshua 3:8–9 ESV
8 And as for you, command the priests who bear the ark of the covenant, ‘When you come to the brink of the waters of the Jordan, you shall stand still in the Jordan.’ ” 9 And Joshua said to the people of Israel, “Come here and listen to the words of the Lord your God.”
Josh
As crazy as they might sound they might just save your life.

Map out the obstacles on the journey

Trust the plan and know that God has a purpose for your life. Nothing he commands is in vain.

4. Map out the obstacles.

Joshua 3:10 ESV
10 And Joshua said, “Here is how you shall know that the living God is among you and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Hivites, the Perizzites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, and the Jebusites.
Joshua 3:10
They had sent spies into the land to find out what must be done.
The information gathered by the spies gave them confidence to move forward knowing it was a work of the Lord.
What are some of the biggest obstacles that you can map out on your journey?
“It’s not a sin to understand your struggle even if your trusting the Lord for the victory.”
Netflix: The Dawn Wall
Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorganson mapped out The Dawn wall before they free-climbed it.
They repel down first and map out each hold on the wall before trying to free-climb it.
Next Steps: (Defining the Process)

What is the next step you need to take as you enter the uncharted territory?
