*Intro:* As we studied the Spiritual gifts listed in verses 8-10 we saw
certain truths relating to each one.
*A- **We looked in detail their make up, purpose, and *
* function.*
1- How they are to be exorcised in the House of God.
Ø *What Paul is doing now is expanding upon what he alluded to in V:1-11.*
A- His main theme in V:12-31 is unity through diversity.
1- The responsibility that I have in:
a- In not taking my part in the church seriously enough.
b- Or in taking my part in the church too seriously where I place myself as more important.
2- We (the church) need each other, it’s because of our differences that we are made stronger.
a- The differences between my wife and myself.
- Me and my M-16.
b- We are able to pick up where another falls short.
- Look at verses 4-6 and see where Paul uses the illustration of the Holy Trinity to show us an example of diversity working together in perfect unity.

*B- **So in the body of Christ:*
1- There are many gifts but one source = God.
2- There purpose is to reveal the work and power of the Holy Spirit working through man for the good of the church.
- So Paul uses the human body to illustrate his point of unity through diversity.
*1 Corinthians 12:12*, For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ.
*A- **“So also is Christ” *= So also is the body who’s head is Christ.
1- A body is identified by the head.
a- That which possesses intellect and features.
- After 44 years of assembly and refinement you have this conglomeration of body parts called Pastor Mike.
- After 4 years of assembly and refinement you have this conglomeration of body parts called Calvary Chapel Ontario.
- After 2000 years of assembly and refinement you have this conglomeration of body parts called Christianity.

*1 Corinthians 6:17*, But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.

A- The unifying factor in our lives is Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit.
1- One family with many differences.

Ø *The church at Corinth is really out of synch with God’s desire.*
A- *They are divided where they should have been united*.
1- They had there own personal teachers (1:12)
2- They divided along the lines of intellect (2:6-7)
3- Abilities (4:7)
4- Disputes (6:1)
5- Marriage (7)
6- Christian Liberties (8)
7- And Social standing (11:18)
B- They are also united where they should be divided
1- Issues of Sexual immorality (5&6).
2- The exercising of Spiritual gifts wrongly.
*Read verses 27-31*
*C- **These are a people who are not Spiritually content in their calling.*
1- Serving in one ministry with an eye an another.
a- Either the stepping stone mentality or wanting to do it all.
- Me and C.M. VS Pastor.
2- The foot is not happy as a foot.
a- Foot – Hand
b- Ear – Eye

*A- **It all comes back, again, to God’s will for you and contentment in His will VS Your will and desire to dictate it to God.*
1- To go according to your will apart from God’s:
a- Is to leave perfection and go to imperfection.
b- To go from the power of the Holy Spirit to the ineffectiveness of the flesh.
c- To go from unity to division.
- You would think it strange if:
· Someone walked up to you on their hands.
· Ate with their ear
· Smelled with their tongue (me and after shave).
*1 Corinthians 12:18*, But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased.
A- *Set =* To place as a piece of a puzzle.
*Romans 9:20-21*, But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God?
Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, “Why have you made me like this?”21 Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor?
Ø *So a body with the parts operation apart form their intended purpose is ineffective there is another truth we can draw from here.*
*A- **There is a greater sin in desiring the improper use of our gifting and that is to not use it at all.*
1- What is a body without a foot, what if you would remove a hand, or poke out an eye.
a- That body is going to be limited in what it can accomplish.
- The church here previously.
· A paraplegic (a head with no functioning body).
*1 Thessalonians 5:19*, Do not quench the Spirit.
(Do not deny god
the right to use you for your created purpose).
*1 Corinthians 12:19-20*, And if they were all one member, where would the body be?20 But now indeed there are many members, yet one body.
Ø *Now Paul shifts gears from the perspective of:*
*V:15-17: *My perceived unimportance that hinders the body.
*V: 21-27: *My perceived importance that hinders the body.
*Read Verses 21-27*
*A- **This independent body is to thrive on Interdependence.*
1- Whatever is necessary for this church God will raise it up from with-in us.
a- He looked at the attitude of:
- “They don’t need me as gifted”
- *TO* “I don’t need them”.

*1 Corinthians 12:22*, No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary.
*A- **The weaker parts are hidden within the body for protection.*
1- My hand is strong and tough and important to me.
a- My kidneys are soft and fragile but of even a greater importance.
- Because of their weakness they are hidden within the body for protection.
2- The week of the church need to be seen as these vital organs.
a- The liver, lungs, heart
b- The unseen prayers, fasters, visitors, encouragers.
*1 Corinthians 12:23*, And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty,
A- If there are people in the church, whom we believe to be less honorable we need to take the time to bestow greater honor on.
