Theme: God’s heart for humanity. Jonah knows that he is created in the image of God, but Jonah hates that image because God is too good. So, in his anger, he tells God to kill him. Anger deforms the image of God and justice leads to irrational anger. God wants for us to turn over our motives and bring them under the cross, where justice and compassion were fused together. In Christ, we’ve been given a new DNA, a DNA of mercy to touch and to heal our world, to use our anger as an ally of mercy.
