intro
The Devil is a main charicter throughout the bible.
He is the great enemy of God.
He is a liar, a murder, an accuser, a blasphmenr, a thief and many others.
He is a fallen angel, a tempter and the father of lies.
He is a strong man, a roaring lion and a snake.
BUT above all these things, he is also defeated in Jesus Name.
It is on this defeat that i want to glory in God, and rub his nose in.
His defeaed is noted many times in Scripture in verious forms.
We have the Promise of His defeat, the prophecy of His defeat, His Positional Defeat, and his ultimate defat.
1: The Promise of His Defeat
There is no doubt that Satans entrance in the scene of Adam Eve shows us his great and evil power.
He subtrly brings Adam and Eve to a place of doubt, jealousy and envy with just a few short words.
He makes them question God’s love, God life, Gods very Words!
And from th eget go, we know that this Satan is going to be a mighty and terrible foe
But at the ame time, as we see his terrible power, we ar gibven a promise from God - A promise that the serpant would one day be defeated.
Amen.
And fater this there is not much else said about the Devil and his defeat, but we see him throughout.
We see him in the lives of the patriachs, in Abrahams lies, and in Joseph’s brothers.
we see satan in the 400 years of slavery to Egypt.
We see satan in the lfe of Moses, in the golden calf and the evil of the people.
We see him at work through the book of Joshua in the eviul of the Baal worshippers.
we see satan cause hovok on poor Job and the calamity that came on him.
We see how the Devil took hold of King Saul and turned him to madness.
We see the Devil’s sinful influemnce on David and on the other Kings.
The Devil seems to be running amok with no consequnce - Has God forgotten about this snake in the grass?
And its not till years later, almost 3000 years later that God gives another word about Satans defeat.
In this word, this prophecy God uses the wicked King of Assiriah as a picture of Satan and promises his defeat AND prophisies about the victory the people of God will experiece once He is defeated.
Now i will get to the prophecy later, but i wish to jump out of order now.
Confusion
There is a lot of confusion for mny christians regrding the nature of satans defeat, we have seen the promise of his defeat:
Now i dont suppose there is any mystery over who this “seed” is, its Jesus.
Satans defeat would come at the hands of Jesus and it did.
But many christians wonder about this:
“If satan is defeated, why is he still running around cauing pain and suffering in the world, in the church, in our own families?”
I mean is satan locked up safe service his time?
No - So was he even defeated?
And if so, then in what way?
This is where it is important to understand the difference betweenhis positional defeat and his ultimate defeat.
The Positional defeat of Satan
Satan was positionally defeated by Jesus Christ 2000 years when Jesus Rose from the grave.
Why do we call it a positional defeat?
Because Satan’s position over you was radically changed through the Lord Jesus Christ.
Please note: This defeat only applies to those who have been born again.
look:
Before we were born again, the Devil had a position of power over us:
These verse make it clear: Before we were born again satan was in a position of power and authority over us - He said jump, our flesh said how high and our spirit was to dead to resist.
But Now, we are no longer childreh of wrath, belonging to our father the Devil.
Through our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ we have passed from death unto life.
we have recieved a new master, a new Lord, we not belong to another, we have been purached by his preciouys blood, we have the holy Spirit as a down payment of our ressurection.
We are sealed by God and have our names written on the palm of His hand.
We are non longer under the Devil, He as no power over us, he has been kicked off the throne of our hearts and Jesus, the righful king has taken his place.
So satan has been positional defeated from those who have accepted Jesus as Lord.
But thats not all, Satan has also been stripped of his powers and disarmed by Jesus Christ.
So what are the implictions of satans Prsitional defeat?
He can do no real, lasting permaned damage to you who have faith.
Sure he has tempt, we now through trhe Holy Spirit can resist.
Sure he an afflict, but we now through the blood have peace
Sure he oppress, but we now through trhe Word have power
and Sure, he can rob, but we now through trhe ressurection has everlating life.
And so now let us look at the Priophecy of satans Defeat:
The Prophecy of satans defeat
As I have said, the propckey is about the King of Assyriah and his oppression of the people of Jerusalem.
but it has a double meaning, for this same passage speaks about the Prince of darkness and his oppression of the people of God’s Church.
The first is a word of encouragement for the church:
Your little fruit tree, will become a firld and your field will become a forest.
All the joy satan has robbed you off, will come back.
The evil one is brought to nothing.
And Now God speaks to satan:
Note the words:
You shall not come into this city, your firey arrows shall cease.
For now what do we have to fight the firey arrows?
The day will one day come, when the faithful solders of Jesus will be able to put their shields down, for the wicked one is vanquished.
But it is not today.
The way you came you will return, you are a roaring lion today, but the day will come when you will put your tail between your legs and run in the face of Christs comming.
Lets look at the Ultimate Defeat
Satan’s Ultimate Defeat
satans ultimate defeat, like his prositional defect will come at the hands of Jesusd Christ.
This great battle is often called the battle of Armageddon.
Lets begin by lookming at the Arival of the King of Kings:
This is not actually a battle, its a massicre because at the momnet God will totally, finally and forever empty the full cup of His wrath, never to feel wrath EVER AGAIN!
And so in the face of God’s full wrath and glory, satan will face is final and ultimate defeat:
God promised satan would be defeaed, he predicted it and he did it.
For now, satan is defeated and are delivered from His power, but not yet from his presence.
Should i fall asleep he will never touch me again: hallelah.
ot should the Lord come before the, I will be able to put my shild down.
But either way, We have the victory.
