Don’t Be A Parrot
Parroting: "A person who WITHOUT thought or UNDERSTANDING merely REPEATS the words or IMITATES the ACTIONS of others."

Who or what we follow is who or what we will imitate
Last Week
Imitate God…HOW?
Love like Jesus…HOW?
Serve
“Whosoever would be a man must be a non conformist” ~Ralph Emerson~
More than ever our world needs us to imitate the right things...
Violence dominates the news/social media/break rooms
Shootings
Politics
Violence
Lifestyles
Tensions right now in our country…in our community are high.
News: ugly
Social Media: Uglier
We need to separate ourselves from this world...
How we speak
Decietfulness
How we act
Vengefulness
We want to look different. We want to be different.

General Grant Story

General Grant and his staff were gathered in a Virginia farmhouse back in the Civil War days. Several officers were standing by the fireplace. He was alone in the corner, apparently in deep thought. One officer said, “I have a story for you men. I believe I can tell it, since there are no ladies present!” An expectant ripple of laughter went through the room. General Grant stood and quietly remarked, “No, but there are gentlemen here.” The story was never told. Some who would not tell an impure story think nothing of listening to one. Followers of Christ must put off worldly habits.

What did your life look like?
How did it make you feel?
The Goal: Jesus is more than enough...
Colassae (Coloss-e)(KO-LA-SEE)
Paul and Timothy co-authored - co-taught
False teachers begin to emphasize a superior wisdom beyond Jesus.
Jesus was a good start…but there needed to be more.
Special rules and practices were being taught
Used the word religious practices to deceive people
Act out...
Kindness, Humility, Mercy, Gentleness, Patience, Forgiveness, Peace, Thankfulness, and LOVE
Let every detail in your life: words, actions - whatever you do - do it to His Glory - Thanking him always along the way
Jesus is more than enough...
A New Life Awaits! (Read v. 1-17)
Set your sights on above…nothing else
We are called to live differently!
We all have parts in God’s story.
Let that be what you imitate
Parts that are supposed to bring Unity not seperation
Put to death what keeps holding you back
Remind yourself you have been reinvented and equipped by Jesus (He lives in all of us)
v.10 “Learn to know your creator and become like Him”
Act out...
Kindness, Humility, Mercy, Gentleness, Patience, Forgiveness, Peace, Thankfulness, and LOVE
Let every detail in your life: words, actions - whatever you do - do it to His Glory - Thanking him always along the way
Jesus is more than enough
We are called to serve…to love!
Jesus is more than enough
Jesus is not just the start...
He is the beginning, the now, and the end. He is Life!
Reinventing ourselves in Jesus
God calls us to live differently.
Following Jesus is more than what we DON’T do.
A Higher Ground so to speak.
Following Jesus is more than what we DON’T do.
It’s about being active...
It’s about being a servant to those in our lives. (Home, Neighbors, Community)
DEX: Action generates Courage
DEX: When was a time you took action in your life?
What happened?
What changed?

2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Higher Ground Hymn
I’m pressing on the upward way. New heights I’m gaining everyday. Still praying as I’m onward bound. Lord plant my feet on higher ground.
How do you you Reinvent yourself with Jesus on the regular?
Why do we want to reinvent ourselves in Jesus everyday?
Jesus wants to Reinvent the way...
Colossians: Being Like Jesus Part V: Christianity Is Not Ethics Plus Belief in Jesus (Colossians 3:1–4:1)

Jesus wanted to revolutionize the way people thought, acted and lived. The choice to believe in Jesus is step one. The choice to live ethically is a natural step two. But the choice to have your entire life shaped and defined by Jesus living vicariously through you—that is a difficult one. Christ in us, resurrecting us, has become uncommon theology. Yet that’s what Paul preached.

Hymn: My Soul Gives Glory To God
Jesus wants to Reinvent the way...
You think, act, and live.
Step one: Believe in Jesus
Step two: Live ethically
Step three: Entire Life REINVENTED
This is the difficult one
Jesus is more than enough
More than how many friends, trips, materials you have.
More than that website - shopping or lust
More than that drink - wake up empty
More than that raise - months later still want more
Hymn: My Soul Gives Glory To God
Jesus leaves the hungry spirits satisfied.
Communion
Where in your life do you need REINVENTING?
Relationship
Habit
Sin

Jesus is more than enough to change those things

The Gathering

Not just locally but globally (How?)
FEED One
Helping kids REINVENT their lives one meal at a time.
Will you?
This week remember this...
Action Generates Courage
Jesus is more than enough...
