Faithful and True
** (GNB)
14“To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: “This is the message from the Amen, the faithful and true witness, who is the origin of all that God has created.
Introduction:
· **Three reasons Christ came to earth
o *To redeem the lost
o *To reign as King
o *To reveal God
· Jesus is the faithful and true witness of God’s revelation.
· The story of doubting Thomas
o ** (NLT)
o 8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.” 9 Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me. 11 Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen me do.
· This name reveals to us that Christ is the Faithful and True witness of God’s revelation
· The same title is used to describe Jesus in
o ** (NIV)
o 5 and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.
· Then again in
o ** (NIV)
o 11 I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war.
· Let’s begin with the meaning of the words.
I. **Faithful
a. *Trustworthy
i. *Pertaining to being trusted—‘faithful, trustworthy, dependable, reliable.’
ii. * His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’
b. The Parable of the Talents
i. A faithful servant!
ii. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much.
c. Jesus is our Trustworthy witness
i. When you see me you see the Father
ii. I have revealed myself to you.
d. But not everyone sees.
i. At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.
ii. Think of your position
iii. You’ve trusted Christ as your savoir
iv. In turn he has entrusted to the secrets of the kingdom
e. **What can we learn
i. When the bibles says:
ii. * (NIV)
iii. 1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. 6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
iv. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
v. When the bible says:
vi. * (NIV)
vii. 28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
viii. * (NIV)
ix. 31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us.
x. You can believe it!
II. **True
a. *Pertaining to being in accordance with historical fact—‘true, truth.’
i. Jesus is real
ii. He is not made up
iii. He is not imagined
iv. He is the origin of creation
b. *He reveals to us the Father – Yahweh if you will.
c. *He saves the lost – from what we deserve
d. *He reigns as King of kings and Lord of lords
**I wonder do you know him?
